The Polar Bear

"try not to think of a polar bear"
he said
"and that's all you'll think about"

he was right - my brain stormed
with lightning flashes of white, teeth,
frozen snow -

but now I think I'd rather not-think
about that bear
than anything else

he seems so lonely on his iceberg,
hollow hair soaked with waves,
so awfully grateful to finally be thought about.
