Dark Day Rising

His footsteps echo
In dead ears,
His reflection shimmers
In a pooled mirror.
He smiles to himself
Laying his weapon into
A charcoal case.
Her dead eyes stare
Upwards,
Her twisted face
Frozen
In deadly fear.
He walks calmly
Onto a train
Headed north, headed
Home,
Headed back to his life, just as the sun breaks through the trees.
He smiles again, he can’t
Wait
To pretend to have a normal life
And kill again on the weekends.
She lays cold and
Alone,
No one will notice she’s missing until
Tomorrow.
Her body shudders its last breath
As
Her blood dries on the bottom of his shoes.
