The Sleeping Beauty

When my mind tells me
To stay high and dry, I will
Just as the sea is never safe,
But the mountains are steady and calm.

If friendship is dangerous (it is)
Then maybe I’ll just stay
Inside my house all day
And watch the clouds float by.

But when I open the door—
I feel the breeze, the trees, and more
I sniff the scents that come in—
When I open the door

The world is bright and inviting
Shorn of danger, clear and comforting
I see a million things that
I want to do

So out goes my mind, goes the
Danger, the lies
And out I skip, freed of all scorn
But when I lift up my foot,
There is a rose.
And on that rose, a thorn.
