child

Hiding, breathing quietly
A child like voice says one, two, three
A whispered voice
“Where are you?”
Oh too be a child too

Suppressing giggles as they hide
Their lungs to weak to let it all well up in side
The seeker yells
“I found you”
Oh too be a child too

So easy making friends those days
All you needed was a game
The boys play foot ball in the yard
I tried once and got tackled hard
But its ok you got tackled too
Oh too be a child like you

So instead the girls played with baby dolls
The game was safer after all
Until we would play house
Cause no one would be the male spouse
So we would argue till one gave in
Oh to be a child again

Until we all matured a bit
And that silly game we did quit
Chasing boys was the newest thing
The high pitch screams in our ears did ring
As they ran away from a fake malady
Someone made up and called a Cootie
Oh to be a child again
