I'm alone on the nicest of
summer nights
Bad summer crimes
all over the summer but I think of life
with the world in mind
Though it shuns me, blind
It treats me like I don't have jets
It's the jones I get from my
baddest of flights
Sick games not right
but they mess around, now they're tossing dice
I'd bump them all off
Show 'em the daylight, bluff
Now my mind's going off the tracks
The world's scoping me out
Trying to bring me down
With its apple butter I just won't eat
The world's just a dive
And I'm dipping through life
With fellas and gals, eggs and the heat
Summer life's got me going for a knife
All my dreams bring me down, down, down
Everything's jake then the globe offers to take
To take me for a ride
Swinging downtown,
Swinging downtown,
Swinging downtown,
What a summer life,
All the words thrown out nowadays aren't so nifty
And those broad canaries? I wouldn't pay fifty
Cents to hear them open those red lips in front of me, I've just,
had enough of acting tough
I'm not much of a fox and not so keen
It's part of the reason the world sees me so mean
Even though I sense the tricks
In my red, white, and blue kicks
What's a fella have to do get around this city clean?
The world's scoping me out
Trying to bring me down
With its apple butter I just won't eat
The world's just a dive
And I'm dipping through life
With fellas and gals, eggs and the heat
And I wish in these dreams I'd remember vividly
What stayed and what made everything so swell
And I wish in my dreams I'd remember correctly
How I lived and loved everything for the right
Dreams keep me grounded
But away from the mess of life
Telling me to get real
But alone in a best paradise
