Running From my shadow

It was your best day,
Wasn’t it?
Right when you were the happiest,
I went and ruined it.

Running from my own shadow
my own shadow,
I discovered you were chasing me.

I never wanted
my shadow to hurt people,
especially you.

So, i ran even faster,
to only discover,
that you were right behind me.

Then I stopped running,
until you ran past me.
Quietly, I followed you,
until you stopped
and fell into a deep slumber.

I snuck to you,
careful not to disturb your slumber,
and I sat down observing your peaceful face.

Then I realized my shadow
was simply a manifestation of my worst fears,
and so I dispelled it.

And waited for you to wake.
