You say you have conquered the seven seas?
Well, I have seen those seven seas stretching
to the four corners of an earth that is round,
and let me just say
that I could have burned them all with my fire!
I could have sent my flames in waves over your oceans’ tides
and scorched your sands black until those seas were dry
and no life was left.
But I stayed my hand and chilled my flames,
favoring ice instead to capture your waters.
Oh yes—they now lay asleep under my ice,
though churning waters do not stay dormant long.
Maybe just long enough for me to stand upon that paralyzed crystal sheet
and smile just as coldly at what I have accomplished
before the waters awaken and take me in—
but even then will I laugh,
for I had the power beyond that of your seas’:
the power to restrain not only them but myself,
while your captured waters showed no such patience—
no such power.
So even if I am to drown,
I will still let my spirit look upon those seven seas stretching
to the four corners of an earth that is round,
and it shall laugh at you while its host lies
in its compressed tomb of water and wave,
never settling at the bottom to the sands
that became crystallized instead of scorched,
floating like the freed spirit that once lived inside of it.
