I pledge allegiance
To the flag
Of the United States of America
And to the controversial culture for which it stands
One nation, under whatever deity you choose,
Indivisible since 1965,
With liberty and justice for all who can afford a decent lawyer.

This is probably the best poem I've seen on this site so far. The setup and wording is well done. Keep up the good work. Keep opening eyes and telling truths.

Good to know, but I'm not being sarcastic. I genuinely think that is really cool and interesting

No offense, but if we cannot be opinionated about our pledge, and by extention, what we believe is right and wrong about our country, then what exactly may we be opinionated about?

P.S. I can definitely see where you're coming from, and how you could come to that conclusion, I just disagree

Wow, it's pretty impressive that your whole class (and teacher) are open-minded enough to see past the controversial issue this represents to the intent behind it. I applaud you all!

I'm still skeptical as to how our personal beliefs about the good and bad in this country have any bearing on our respect for this country and its soldiers. Last I checked what made our country great was our ability to have those beliefs.

I also do not believe that this poem is attacking America... I think it is meant to show that we each have (or at least ought to have) our own view of what this country stands for. I, too have things that make me crazy about what goes on in our country (ex. our legal system and its inefficiency, as stated by this poem); but there are also things I love (ex. our 'controversial culture') I think that these are the things that make our country unique and that this issue has no bearing on our level of respect for the brave men and women who fight for us every day. Way to bring up a controversial issue!
