He resolved to harden
his heart
It was easier that way
It didn't hurt so much that way
at least, that's what he told
himself

But it didn't really help
just turned him bitter
and bitterness still feels
still hurts
still stings

He still cried
and still scarred
it wasn't any easier
and it hurt just as much
as before
