you are laying on the floor
one iridescent wing is crushed
beneath your bulky body
when you fell
you used to spin such graceful circles
figure eights up in the sky
but you crashed into the window-shade
the golden brown
of life before your eyes
your heaven turned fiery judgement
melted gold turned amber blaze
you spun into a dizzying descent
you tried to regain control
you knew this was it
your lonely wing quivered
as it failed to catch the wind
the air was fiery sleet
the floor rushed towards you
it seemed so far away
not so long ago
the warm colors of wood
caught in the evening sunlight
never seemed so cold
so white-hot
it rose to meet you
you didn’t close your eyes
you stared death in the face
because you knew
you were still perfect
you were so beautiful
as you fell
