What if?

What if they stormed the castle,
Took the princess,
And threatened to kill the innocent?

What if they came to our planet,
Abducted me,
And never intended to bring me back?

What if they came to my house,
Took everything I owned,
And threatened to take the ones I love?

I like to think I would fight to the death,
Rescue the princess,
And defend the innocent.

I like to think I would greet them kindly,
Stay calm,
And my curiosity would overcome fear.

I like to think I would bar the doors,
Struggle vigorously,
And protect the ones I love.

But what would really happen,
Should disaster come about?
Would I stand and fight?

Or would I run and hide,
Shivering in terror.
