I remember right after you left
I took to running
In between the heavy pounding
of my feet on burning rubber
and my heart against wiry bones
I thought maybe my thoughts could
fly forward like my thumping feet
and leave you behind,
underneath my disappearing steps
I thought maybe the harder I pushed
the faster you'd leave me alone
But I was wrong.
