O Captain, My Captain!
I stand up on a plain oak desk
And denote that I need you to stay
O Captain, My Captain
I tap my fingers to Morse code
In a proclamation my spontaneity
Please say you heard
Please say you understood
Because the spaces in your teeth don’t bare any words
And I can’t read your face so I’ll settle for
Drawing agreeable nods on your knees
But your knees are knobby
And your skin’s been stitched up in the stars
And I’m not so lucky as to have long enough appendages to reach out
And crawl into the foreground of your cognizant mind
So you leave the room
And I’m left standing
On a plain oak desk
Screaming to you
O Captain- please don’t go.
