My mouth sewn shut,
Dry blood 'cross my lips.
Undoing the stitching;
That's what Life is.
While some rise,
You see,
Others must sink,
and rarely is anything what you thought or think.
It's cruel and it's cold,
But we all want to be heard,
So desperately we scramble,
Following the herd.
We're not selfish by nature
Or hateful by default,
This callousness isn't who we are
Deep down,
But the monsters of ourselves,
The demons of our past
Come in to defend and attack
Before harm's way makes its march,
Icy personas take charge,
But it doesn't have to last.
Compassion can be seen
and humanity, tamed.
Selflessness can be learned, but why?
When faux grace is famed.
It's too difficult to feel true empathy, so we fake it
'Til we make it
and then forget how not to.
What it comes down to
Is too many of us are deceitful to those we love because love is what we want
Without the disadvantage of them having the ability to haunt
Us once they're gone.
Admiration;
It's simple adaptation;
Because society is a rapid evolution
and if you're not improvin',
Then you're surely losin'.
At a young age, we're taught what it takes
To go out into the world and make money.
Success is stressed,
Even as a kiddie.
We start off small with shiny little pennies,
But by the time we're teens, we're listening to songs 'bout makin' "milli's!"
By the rate we're goin', we should be more concerned with being happy;
To appreciate, cope, and handle complications.
I mean, look around, where's the education?
Look around at how many of us are on medication,
Look at all the antidepressants we're takin'.
Instead of telling the next generation
What to do and how to do it,
Why not tell them why?
We're riddled with bulls*** statistics, but irrelevance aside,
Isn't it obvious we're too young to imagine ourselves dying?
If someone told you how you could die through one mistake, wouldn't you think that person to be lying?
Car crashes, overdoses, alcohol poisoning! Society inhales teen tragedy!
When, normally, we don't see this happening.
It is, but either not in front of us
Or not close enough
For us to get a good look at what could be,
So we think, "Nah, that ain't happening to me!"
Society's come to embrace death, shame, and hate
In the wrongest way.
We treat it like they're accidents
When they're not,
But I'm not saying they're necessarily fate,
Just experiences we move on from
and take knowledge from.
We're softening ourselves for a hard world
and telling each other it'll be all right when it won't
Be all the time, the world won't
Work that way!
Some things do not turn out okay,
Life isn't fair,
But we learn from the pain of our mistakes
and with tears on our cheeks, we move on
With whatever it takes.
Disaster after disaster is on the news everyday, these tragedies appear like casualties,
So we look at them quite casually.
So what do we do?
Exploitation sounds logical, and yet it isn't.
Instead of shoving misinformation down our throats,
Why not try a different method,
Perhaps a more relatable approach?
Right now, the way you're glorifying a beast
Is making the binge look more like a feast
and you make the danger so damn tempting,
Have you learned nothing from Eve?
The forbidden fruit's appeal is mysterious, relenting.
Curiosity killed the cat
and it got to me too,
But I don't regret what I've done
and I fix it with what I do
Now,
On the path I'm on now
and I want to teach you all how
To go from nothing
To something
With a bit of motivation,
Destruction is just the initiation
Of something better.
Sometimes forests must burn to regrow and grow more.
When we take the wrong road,
We can never go back,
But we can walk to somewhere we thought we'd never
Be.
My voice is stuck
Behind lips that are tucked,
Tucked for my safety,
So everything's kept safely
Within,
But for just a moment, I'll let you in.
The secret to protecting yourself is not,
You've got to lose what you got
To appreciate Life a whole lot
More, so don't think you're excluded.
Experience the wine of Life,
The blood included.
Fire needs to find you, so you can be destroyed
to be rebuilt and rejoice.
You need to hit rock bottom in order to climb up.
Like Bruce Wayne, "Why do we fall?
So we can learn to pick ourselves back up."
Dry blood 'cross my lips.
