The boy stands there.
Behind the counter waiting for someone to choose from the vast selection of ice creams in front of him.
The girl has already chosen.
Mint choc chip, it is always mint choc chip, her favourite.

His eyes occasionally flit to the screen on his right, her left.
The Grand Prix is on, he likes that.
So he likes the Grand Prix she notes.

He reminds her of her brother.
He likes the Grand Prix, her brother that is.
They’re both tall, skinny with dark hair.
The resemblance stops there though.
They have different faces, different personalities, different smiles.

He hands the ice creams over.
His eyes stop for a moment to look at her.
A rush of butterflies cascade around her stomach.
He looked at her. She smiles back.

Words are exchanged but no conversation, just a price, and a thank you.
She leaves the shop and his eyes flit back to the screen.
He looks up as she leaves.
‘Who’s next?’ He asks.
