A nail pierced my foot last week
the wound bled
and bled like the River Nile
and widened like the mouth of a baby crying its first cry
and became red like a ripe tomato at harvest season
and infected, like a magnet to metallic flies
and then healed;
a scar bearing its memory
Needle words pricked my heart last year
the wound bled
and bled only in trickles
and never even widened
and never changed colour
and never got infected
and I am still waiting;
for it to heal
