Teenager

More by this author
I am
a Teenager.
Sometimes it pains me to say it
Sometimes I love to hear the words dance upon my tongue.
Sometimes I want to be young and innocent and carefree
Sometimes I want to be mature, serious.
Sometimes I want to be treated like a child
Sometimes I want to be an adult.
Sometimes I want to be different, be the rainbow among a sea of grey
Sometimes I want to be the same, transparent, invisible.
Sometimes I want to be big, important, superior.
Sometimes I want to be miniscule, and look at all the giants around me.
Sometimes I want all the attention, to grab the spotlight and fit it upon my head like a crown
Sometimes I want to sit low in the crowd, and watch others shine from the comfort of my dark and indifferent corner.
Sometimes I want to break out into the world and see nature and travel all over
Sometimes I want to hide in my room with myself and forget there is a world out there.
Sometimes I want to be tough, with steel running through my veins
Sometimes I want to be gentle, my arms open to any and all.
Sometimes I want to be loud and have a voice
Sometimes I want to be quiet, and bask in tranquility.
Sometimes I want my thoughts to be known, words and images linked together for others to witness
Sometimes I want them to be locked in privacy, in the sacred diary of my mind.
Sometimes I want to rebel, I want to make waves, make change
Sometimes I want to be obedient, do what others ask, expect.
And who can blame me?
For I am
a Teenager.
