Dreary
windswept homes overlook the harbor
their paint and siding cracking
and peeling slowly away
yet, many a folk stay.
jobs are scarse and prices high
young starters-out search for dreams
aboard rickety boats
atop freezing, churning seas.
anchoring the residents to this rock,
there is only one thing:
golden flecks beneath the sand
enough to make a thousand rings.
many try, most fail undoubtedly
but the few who succeed
to cement their dreams
often are filled with greed.
