Through the Darkness

Why do I pity myself?
I have a good life
with parents that care
and friends that smile
when they see me,
But no matter what I do,
I can't get over my flaws.
I compare myself to others
and ask,
"Why can't I be like them?"
I'm not the best
no matter how hard I try
or how much I want it
I fall, trip, stumble
and I am put in
someone's looming shadow
and I can't get out
the darkness consumes me
pulling me in tighter
until I can't see anything
except my failure
How do I push on then?
