I do not understand
Why lunch ladies have moles
Why the food is all square
Why the seats are all circles
But most of all I do not understand
Eating in twenty minutes
Waiting in long lines
And gossipy chatter
What I understand most are cafeterias
It is a refuge from thinking
Where I'm free to be free
And for a few brief moments
I'm distracted from lessons and books
