All I Need Is a Friend MAG

Books fill up my room.
Not baseball cards,
or pictures of girls,
or basketballs.
Maybe a blown up picture of …
… Pam Anderson might help.

Black-framed glasses
and a white,
pale,
lanky
body.
I should start working out.

At least I can read.
I read four books a day last summer.
The librarian,
80-year-old Mrs. Woodsworth,
she knows my middle name.
If only I had a real friend.
I am sick of seeing her old,
bony,
pale body.
Although it resembles mine.

The kids at school laugh.
Is it the way I dress?
Lacoste,
Ralph Lauren,
La Tigre.
I’ve tried every designer out there.
Staying in the house really saves me money.
My stupid rich parents give me $50 a week for lunch.
$50 times 36 weeks …
what is that?
$1,000,
$2,000,
$10,000?
I should probably know.
Straight A’s 12 years in a row
and counting.

With all of this,
or none of this –
it depends how you look at it –
all I need is a friend.

Writers are a less dangerous version of the career criminal. Everywhere they go, they see the potential for the perfect crime. The difference is that writers have better self control.

I like this. It rather reminds me of myself. Very few friends and far too many books read in a day for my own good.

"Why does everyone think I need a man? Look if you find a guy who is decent, good with kids and has respect for women, call me." "It is better to have loved, than to have never loved at all."

I wouldn't care how you dressed or if you got straight A's. I'd be your friend.

"I realize that life is risks. It's acknowledging the past but looking forward. It's taking chances that we will make mistakes but believeing we all deserve to be forgiven."
-The Dead Tossed Waves.

i love the simplicity and straightforwardness of the poem. and ill be your friend!! seriously tho..lol. and i knw what you mean. reading and writing is literally my life. i choose it over everything and no one understands it. i reed 400 page books in a day, only to start another one. my mom worries about me because she thinks "reading is my escape" and that i "live in these books and not the real world". but so what if i do? id say some constructive reading is a hell of a lot better than drugs or other abuses. your poem was great and i like how your so open about all of it. and i do have a lots of friends, and turn them down for reading all the time. (on the low) books are sumtimes better than people. lol. well, maybe thats just my oppinion tho. haha. great job:)

when my work gets accepted to the site id LOVE for you to view it and see what you think. id really appriciate your judgement and thoughts on my writing.

I have found power in the mysteries of thought. -Euripides

You'll always have a friend in a book. And if you actually find a friend, because they are hard to come by, keep them and cherish them forever. I recently moved to a new state, and I found myself very isolated. I trained myself just to not need friends, as my dad did a long time ago. Best of luck.

If it had not been for these things, I might have lived out my life talking at street corners to scorning men. I might have died, unmarked, unknown, a failure. Now we are not a failure. This is our career and our triumph. Never in our full life could we hope to do such work for tolerance, for justice, for man's understanding of man as now we do by accident.
~Bartolomeo Vanzetti

Reminds me of me. Really well done =) you should read my stuff

Write what you know, and dream of. - Jane Austen
People throw rocks at things that shine - Taylor Swift
Just Keep Swimming! Just Keep Swimming! - Ellen DeGengeres as Dory

This poem is truely amazing. It shows your side of emotional and how all you long to be is accepted by people. You are accepted by people, you have a talent and I'd say by the number of comments and ratings you have on this poem you're really accepted here. :) Really it's an awesome poem, I can't wait to read more! :D
