Within those 3 feet so much can happen
You can feel the tension is in the air
The battle is too close to touch
I don't think that anyone can even care.

When the first stone was thrown,
when the hose was cut.
Our reality was snapped.

They burned down our builldings,
They looted our store.
They say it is for justice.
That they care about this town.

I hear them say "You killed my son"
Was he the one.
They keep chanting "All night, all day. We will fight for Freddy Gray"
But is this really the way?

Between the armies there stands a three foot gap.

All you can fit in three feet is tension and hatred for each other.
Widen the gap.
Can't we just get along.
Live together in peace and harmony,
And stand together as one.s

Shouldn't we stand together...United.
Not separate and divided as two.

I thought that we were indivisible.
The one nation never to be split.

You'd think that after two hundred and fifty years that we'd get it.
That we have to stand in the gap.
And push back! To win our homes.
To fight for our families!

And make sure that they don't fall on the wrong side of the gap.

This poem was inspired from the riots in Baltimore. I was watching the news and it just made me feel so sad. It made me feel like I needed to make a difference, whatever difference this makes I hope it does something.
