Where I am From

I am from Saint Valentine--
the 14th of February, sharp bolts of pain, and my mother’s shallow breaths.
From entering the world chasing my dreams...

I am from a runner and a worker--
dreams unfulfilled and endless hours at the office.
From pushing the children to be what they could not...

I am from the Earth--
tenting up north, exploring secluded trails, and discovering unvisited sectors of the deep forest.
From appreciating the majesty of life...

I am from the water--
morning practices and an aching body.
From gasping for a breath I’m not allowed to take...

I am from valiance--
attacking challenges, in no way permitting weakness, and shattering blockades.
From becoming stronger...

I am from the future--
hardwired to chase the coming sun, a determined lion hunting for prey.
From making the world my own...

I am from greatness--
  blood in my veins,  values in my heart, and courage in my mind.
From believing I can, I have, and I will.
