Thank you for holding on tight when she needed you most,
For letting go when I needed to find strength to stand on my own
You take and you serve
You’ve created and you’ve destroyed
You’ve caressed and you’ve decoyed
Sweating and shaking, becoming a body of prayer
Thank you for being my anchor
Hand in hand, I don’t face the universe alone
I have something to hold onto,
Keep me steady, take me home

Take me home, latching onto the wisp of the music
The keys bend beneath your mercy
You grasp control, eyes closed
You’ve listened and you’ve spoken
You’ve mended and you’ve broken
Gliding and gritting, in the grace of forgetting
Thank you for securing my hope
Note by note, I’m never alone
I have something to hold onto
I reach out and I’m never left empty-handed

I’m never left empty-handed, a pen rests in my palm
Memories dip across the page like honey
You possess the string to my soul
You’ve scribed and you’ve jotted
You’ve preached and you’ve plotted
Unwinding and understanding the release I so crave
Thank you for providing when my tongue is unavailing
Word after word, I surrender
I have something to hold onto
Don’t let go, keep writing forever.
