Ode to My 2013 High Tops
You’re a legend, never to be reproduced.
With careful maneuvers I take you out of your worn box.
I lace your top four eyelets with practiced finesse and
pull to the familiar tightness I need.
Putting you on is a call to action.
At home on the basketball court,
you’ve seen me through countless practices and games.
No other shoe compares.
Though I never wear you outside,
the years are showing in your weathered leather and too-smooth soles.
After fruitless attempts to buy another pair,
I have to accept that you will never be replicated.

My English teacher asked us to write an ode to a comfort item. My high tops are my favorite shoes and they don't make them anymore. I wear them only on the basketball court to make them last as long as possible.
