We have fought the fight,
Even through the dark night.

We have thrived,
Even through the times we knew we couldn’t survive.

We kept breathing,
Even when hope was retreating.

We have ignored the plummeting feeling,
Even when our hearts didn’t want continue healing.

We have cried,
For all the lost tries.

We have hoped,
Even when the doctors shook their head no.

We have held our heads up high,
Even when the rain fell from the sky.

We have continued to kill the dread,
Even when those negative words were said.

We have proved them wrong,
Even when our faith was not strong.

We have continued to believe in the possible,
Even when we ended up in the hospital.

But now, when all is said and done,
All that matters is that we have won.

We have found the answer,
We have found the cure.

When I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, I had one goal in mind; to raise awareness and find the cure. My poem was inspired by my everyday life, my hope and my dream that I will by diabetes free one day soon. My journey with Type 1 Diabetes will end when we find the cure.

Hi Megan,

Your poem was forwarded to me by Alex S.'s mom Suzanne. I have been great friends with the family, long before Alex was even born. More importanly is that I have been a Type I diabetic for 43 years, I was diagnosed at the age of 3. I have been married for 23 years and have two great kids who are now 21 and 18 years old. I have seen a lot of changes in the treatment of the disease over the years and like you, pray for a cure every day. I want to let you know that with the discouraging days there have been many more positive days living with and dealing with my disease. Never give up hope Megan, I truly believe they will find a cure in our life time. Know that you will live a long and happy life, I am living proof of that. Keep up your crusade for a cure and tell Alex I said hi!

Really awesome Megan, I see you becoming a great poet, you went into many things I would of never thought of. Please remember Jesus is always the cure, mentally and physically. He can cure anything.

I found it o.k, but what really hit me was the personal tag, even if it was slightly overdone (as in the sense that, that message has been sent many times, but maybe not in enough ways)
