The book "Evening" is about the life of Ann Lord, once a promising singer, now dying of cancer. The reader follows Ann as she reminds herself of key events in her life with particular insistence on the wedding of her best friend, Lila. There she met the one she says was the love of her life, Harris.
The book isn't the easiest to read, as we skip from in and out of conscience, differently timed past events, imaginary conversations and other people's conversations about her, without even a hint, as reflected by the lack of punctuation. Even though, it is an interesting book that makes us question about the meaning of our lives and about how our future may not be quite so. In the end we see Ann is not your typical heroine: she has one moment of happiness in her youth and then she has a life full of events that in the end seem miserable to the reader.
