Powdered Pillows of New Orleans
On the corner of many streets in Louisiana lies a famous restaurant, Café Du Monde that is home to one of New Orleans’ most famous and delicious treats, a beignet. As soon as I walk into the restaurant the pleasant smells of coffee and beignets flow to my nose. I am not so focused on the strong rich smell of the coffee, but I am drawn to the light and delightful smell of the beignet. As soon as I take a look at the treat I realize that it reminds me of a pillow that has had just the perfect amount of powdered sugar sprinkled on top of it. The crispy yet soft and doughy texture of the pastry make the powdered sugar look as if without it, the beignet would look as bland as a blank canvass. As I bite into the beignet, an explosion of sweet flavors burst into my mouth. I taste the perfect combination of the powdery sensation and the soft warm texture of the beignet that has just come out of the oven. As I touch it to take another delicious bite of the scrumptious treat, my hands reveal a sticky yet powdery substance. I lick it and taste the delicious flavor. I feel the beignets great warmth and comfort for I know its delicious and light flavor will not disappoint. Though the beignet does not have much of a sound I can hear the sound of the people who are enjoying the treat. I hear the sound of laughter and joy as each individual bites into the desert. I then, realize that, that sound that I am hearing is the sound of my own delight as I am eating, smelling, tasting, and most of all enjoying the powdered pillows of New Orleans.
