There are times that you can only describe a person by meeting the outside part of them. And there are times that you might think you know them but you really don’t. Every person has multiple sides of themselves.

I am grateful and thankful to know both sides of this person, and I’m proud to call her my mom.

People may describe my mom as short, kind, pretty, and shy but she is more than that. She is capable of many things and has pushed through rough moments in her life.

Whenever my mom is with her friends, she’s a whole different person in a good way. She’s always smiling, kind, shy, but she’s always helping others whenever they are in need of help and always willing to do something for others whenever she can.

A couple of months ago during summer, we saw our old neighbor named Angela, she was walking down the Congress street with her daughter in law and her little grandson, so my mom pulled over and they talked for a while. Angela mentioned that her daughter in law and her grandson had just gotten to Austin from Honduras and the little boy was getting sick. My mom took them to a product store and she got the little boy some medicine products that they suggested for him. I admire my mom for always caring and helping others. Every time she helps others she always says God will always help us.

The other side of my mom that not everyone knows about shows that she is a fighter, hard-working, smart, and strong. There are so many other words that I could describe my mom as. I can tell you that every time that my mom has faced a bad moment in her life she has fallen down but she has never given up and she always gets back up.

I admire my mom for the hard-working woman she is. She has always managed to move forward in life. She’s always looking out for me and my siblings making sure we are always behaving the way she thought us to behave. We have been through a lot as a family starting with my dad leaving us and forming another family. It was a huge impact for me in the past but I have overcome that now, although there is a part of me that still hurts but now it’s also my siblings that have to go through this which is one thing that I didn’t want them to go through but it happened and there’s always a reason why things happen and the only one that knows why is God. Although it’s been tough my mom has always done everything to make me and my siblings feel like we are loved and cared for. She might not always buy us the things we want but she always makes sure that we have food to eat and go to school.

A year ago my mom was looking for a house that she could afford to buy for us to live in, it was a really hard process we had been living in an apartment and sometimes even in my grandma's house. Buying a house was one of my mom's goals. I’m more than happy and blessed to say that a year ago in May 2018 we got our first house thanks to my mom's hard work my tias help and God’s blessing.

My mom has always had this side of her where she’s always cheering loud and always being supportive in the stands. She has always been there to support me in every single one of my games and I appreciate her for always supporting me in everything I do.

There are many perspectives on how people see my mom. She is known around school a lot because she works there. There are always teachers that tell me they love my mom and it warms my heart because although she has struggled a lot she always manages to make other people smile or happy.

Many people say that my mom looks mean which makes me laugh a bit because if you really get to know her she is actually the complete opposite. Yes, she might be strict and sometimes yell at me and my siblings but the reason for that is because she wants to make sure that if we do something wrong we own up to our mistakes and make something better.

It’s so surprising how many sides a single person can have. You may know a person by the way they act, talk or even if they’re loud, funny, smart, etc. Even as a close friend you might think you know everything about one person but do you really?

I wrote this piece because I wanted to talk about how my mom has been a role model to me and how she has been a hard-working woman, and I want to make her proud!
