scaped from a house fire beore her dance at school.
That was 4 years ago she turned 16 today (July 20, 2012). She's a cute little girl looking for a family who'll love her for who she is. All she has is the bunny her mommy made for her when she was a baby. There's a hole is its back because she put 2 valuable things in there. Stevie's her name and her bunny named Danny both look like death but all they are is wet,lost, dirty, and have rips and burn marks. shes lost in a time warp you could say. She died a yr. later on July 22,2013 in a fire. You'd find her wandering around her house and her brothers house. If she went outside it was during the night so no one could see what she looked like. If she did go outside during the day it was to get the mail, but if someone sees her shes run inside and hide in a corner and cry. "Everyone stares" She says. "I don't like being given those weird looks for something I had no control over."She says with a shaky voice. "Everyone looks at me like I'm a psychopath who needs counseling." she told me. She doesn't like explaining to anyone why she looks the way she does after the accident. Being that she trusted me and told me what happened. She would like me to write about it, so I am and I'll share her story with you.
"I was in my room getting ready for the dance. My hair was done up curly with some curls hanging down, and I had on the most prettiest dress it was 2 shades of purple a medium purple on top and a darker purple underneath. It had sequences along the bottom and glitter all over. My make-up was done nice, not to much to where I looked like a clown, but simple. I had silver heels to go with my dress.
"I went downstairs and while I was walking down the stairs my dad was taking pictures of me, my brother Danny and I, my mom and I and he had my mom take my and my dads picture together. He gave me the camera so I could take pictures of my friends and I at the dance. I wasn't able to go to the dance because as I reached for the door knob my house flew up in flames. I was knocked out from the fumes. when I woke up I was being carried by a fire fighter. At that point I started crying because I knew my parents were in there burning to death. My brother was the lucky one because as soon as we were done taking pictures he went to the store to get my mom milk and eggs. As I was sitting in the ambulance a fireman came to me and handed me the bunny my mom made me when I was just a year old, my moms locket that had 2 pictures of the family. The left side had her and my father and the right side had a picture of me and my brother. The fireman handed me one last thing. My dads picture he gave me when he was in the military and inside the picture frame were all the letter we wrote back and forth to each other. Then another fireman came out with the rolls of film and he told me he would get them developed for me. I stayed with my boyfriend for a couple months and then moved in with my brother. I put the pictures in a scrapbook and hid it.Then I took off my moms locket and took my dads letters that we were sending back and forth, and some of the pictures and cut a hole in my bunny and stashed them in there and hid my bunny.
---- a few months later she had moved in with her brother and they've been doing good. He's all she has and they look out for each other. One night her brother told her that he'd be back in 2 hours because he had to pick up his girlfriend. So she said okay and went to take a shower and watch a movie. When two hours passed her movie was over and her brother wasn't home yet. She went to bed anyway thinking that hes just stuck in traffic. She woke up at 6 a.m. to someone knocking on the door. She put on her jacket and went to the door. She opened the door and saw two police men standing there. "Are you Stevie Denero?" They asked. "Yes I am. Why what did I do?" She asked "You didn't do anything,Its about your brother Danny." They said. Almost in tears she asks "What happened?" "He and his friend got into a car crash..." "nooo! he cant die he can't. Hes the only one of my family I have left. my mom and died in the house fire and i don't know what I'd do without him. He can't he just..." She said "whoa,whoa he didn't die, hes in the hospital in critical condition. His friend on the other hand wasn't wearing her seat belt and she went through the windshield." They said "Then why are you guys here if he isn't killed?" She said as tears ran down her cheeks. "Were here because he told us to come here and get you with all your stuff and his because you guys are moving. He wanted us to help and bring you to him as soon as we pack all this stuff up." They said. "Oh.... okay." She said.

It took them about 3 hours plus 2 "lunch" breaks to get everything packed and moved into the new place. "Danny Deneros' room please" The police men said. "Room 23 on the 3rd floor, when you get off the elevator and take the hall way to the left and go all the way down and then make another left and his room will be the 5th room on the right." The nurse said. "Mr. policeman sir, I had school today and I have school tomorrow. What do I do? " Stevie asked "We'll talk to the principal and tell him you were with us to get experience in the crime field for college credits and that during school was the only time the chief would've allowed us to do so." Said the police man. "Okay." She said. they got off the elevator and took the left. Stevie started running to her brothers room. When she got there she gave him the flowers and the teddy bear she got him from the gift shop downstairs. "I Love You, remember that, you're the only one I have left and I don't want to lose that." She told him in tears. "I know and I Love You Too, I'm not going anywhere anytime soon I promise you that." He said wiping the tears away. They hugged each other and she started telling him all about her dream and how she started crying because she thought he was dead. She stayed the night with her brother at the hospital. In the morning the police men came and took her to the new house to unpack some things and move the couch to a good spot. She got a weeks worth of clothes and then locked the door and went to the police car. They took her back to the hospital but her brother wasn't in the same room. He was in ICU. "You're not allowed to go in there miss" Said the doctor. "But that's my brother." She said "I'm sorry , sweetie but you cant go in there right now." Said the doctor. "you don't understand , Hes the only one i have left of my family. My mom and dad died in a house fire and I was here for my burns and now I have scars." She told him. "Okay, well he went into cardiac arrest earlier today around 1 pm. Hes doing a lot better now and its only been two hours. Hes going to have to stay in ICU overnight." Dr.shamusen said. "Could i stay with him overnight?" Stevie asked "Yes,but if there's a serious problem you'll have to sit outside the room." Dr.shamusen told her. "But you can't go in there right now the nurse is taking blood." He said "Okay so in 5 min.?" she asked "As soon as the nurse comes out you can go in." "Okay thank you" She said and she gave the doctor a hug. Five minutes have passed and the nurse walks out of the room. she gets the police men and they go into the room. "How are you son?" asked a policeman "I'm doing better thanks for asking sir." Danny said "No problem" Said the policeman. the two police men stepped out for a minute and they were talking amongst themselves. "We can't charge him and throw him in jail because then she'd be all alone and shes only 15." Jerry the police man said "Yeah but we could lose our jobs." Billy the other police man said. "True, but the girl was driving and Danny said he told her to slow down but she didn't listen and she hit a deer and crashed into a tree." Jerry told billy. "Okay, fine we wont take him to court because it wasn't his fault." They both went back into the room. "Danny we have news for you" They said "What is it?" He asked while holing his sisters hand tight. "There will be no court date at all and no charges just a ticket for speeding." They told him. "Th-Th-Thank you sirs." He said as his eyes welled up with tears. "Well, we'll be on our way and we'll be here at 6:30 a.m. sharp to pick you up for school okay Stevie?" They said "Yes sirs. I will be ready by then" She said . They smiled and said "Have a goodnight you guys" "We will." Danny and Stevie said. The police men smiled and walked out the door and turned the corner to the elevator. "Danny?" "yes Stevie? whats up?" He asked. "Do you think mom and dad are happy where they are?" She asked "Yeah, but I bet they'd be happier if they weren't there , but if they were here with us." He said. "Yeah, I bet mom would be telling you what you should have done ha ha, and dad would be like don't do it again. I miss them Danny " she said with her eyes in tears. "I know Stevie, i do to. I bet they're looking at us right now telling god to let me live just so you have someone that's your family here with you." He told her wiping the tears away. "True, I bet you they're smiling right now" she said. "why?" Danny asked "Because they always smile when they see they're two children getting along." She said. "Oh. true true." He said "What time is it?" Stevie asked. " its 9:55 pm" Danny said. "Ha ha i thought it was morning." She said sarcastically. " I didn't know you knew it was night time" He said playing around. "Well i do" She said after 6 minutes of laughter Stevie asks Danny "Can I go to sleep?" "Nope you have to stay up the whole night" He said sarcastically. "aw, I really wanted to sleep after a hard day or work sweat and tears." She says while holding back a smile. "i'm kidding, of course you can go to sleep ,you need it." He said. "Where am I supposed to sleep?" She asked. Danny called the nurse and asked if Stevie could lay with him. "I'm sorry but no she cannot lay in the same bed but I could get one for her to lay on" Said the nurse. "Could you? that'll be great please." He said. 4 minutes later the nurse comes back with a bed Stevie could sleep on. "Here you go sweetie pie." The nurse said. "Thank you, I appreciate it" Stevie says. "Your welcome and have a good night." the nurse said. "Thank you , you too ." Stevie said smiling. The nurse left the room and shut the door behind her.
Stevie fell asleep and an hour later Danny falls asleep.
In the middle of the night Danny goes into cardiac arrest again. The doctors saved him again, but Stevie didn't wake up she was stiff. she was breathing but she was stiff. It was as if she was half dead or something. The doctor looked at her and said that she was in a coma but he doesn't know why she is. "what why?" Danny asked. "We don't know yet" said the doctor. "We have to do some tests." said the nurse. Danny stood up all night staring at his sister just laying there in a coma. 6:30 came and the police men knocked on the door. "shes sleeping?" they asked "No shes in a coma. been that way ever since 12:30." Danny explained. "Did they take tests?" Billy the police man asked. "Yeah, but they have to take more later." Danny said. Both police men sat down and asked the doctor and nurses all kinds of questions on why shes in a coma but they didn't have any answers yet. "Why is she in a coma doctor?" billy the police man asked. "Shes in a coma because she was overwhelmed with everything that happened, that when she fell asleep she went into shock from the happiness of her brother being okay and the thought that her parents are gone." said the doctor. "oh?" all 3 men said looking puzzled "Yes, being overwhelmed a lot in a small amount of time, your brain can collapse and put your body into shock resulting in a coma for about roughly two weeks and or death,but your sister is a lucky one" The doctor said. "Shes pretty special too, she kept the house running in good shape when mom was in the hospital because of her kidney." Danny said. "You should see her school work and grades." The policemen said.
A couple weeks passed by. The police men always went to the hospital to see how she was doing because they've grown attached to Stevie as if she was their niece . her boyfriend Matt showed up and stayed int he hospital for a week then went home to get more clothes. when he returned with a giant teddy bear and flowers and a necklace there was doctors surrounding her. "Whats happening?" Matt asked "She went into cardiac arrest" Danny told him. "Shes good!!!" said the doctor. "You've got a pretty strong sister and girlfriend. shes a keeper son,she really is." the doctor told the two boys. "thank you sir." Danny said "Thank you , and ill be sure to stay with her for the rest of my life." Matt said. "You better stick to that word too" Stevie said. The boys are in shock. Danny gets out of bed and walks to her bed and gives her a big hug and kiss his eyes welling in tears and he said "Don't ever leave me like that again. You understand me? I was so worried" " I wont I promise Danny I promise" She said. She hugs him back and she opens her eyes and sees Matt standing in the door way. "Matt!!!" she says. "Yeah its me baby. I was here for the last week and a half. I was so scared when i walked in and saw all these doctors around you." "Well they fixed me , and i'm so glad to see you, I missed you so much." She said. "I know you have and I missed you too." He said.
They stood up talking and laughing all night. Matt stayed for the last three weeks Stevie and Danny had in the hospital. he drove them home and stayed a couple weeks there making sure nothing went wrong. the police men were there about twice everyday.
One day Danny was well enough to take a walk and he did. He went and took a walk by himself , trying not to wake anyone up. he wrote a note and put it on the mirror in Stevies' room. when he was a half a block away from coming home a car was spinning and it spun out of control and it hit him trowing him 20 ft. into the air and landing on the road. Stevie and Matt were notified as soon as the cops found out. Stevie fell to the floor in tears. Matt knelt down and tried to comfort her but it didn't work she was in a black hole for about 3 weeks. Matt stood by her side for as long as she needed him there and then some, never left her alone because he made that mistake once and he came back to find her with her arms all cut up. "He promised" she said "Promised what?" Matt asked "he promised that he'd never leave me alone." she said " in the hospital he said he promises that he wouldn't leave me. not alone." she said " but he didn't leave you alone . god knows this too that's why he took him. hes not trying to take away your family . Trust me. but he waited until I came to you and never wanted to ever leave your side." Matt told her. "He didn't leave you alone , he left you with someone who loves you just as much as he did. and i bet you he still loves you and is looking down at you smiling and crying because its true. He wants you to be happy and he even told me that if he had to leave you , he'd rather leave you with me and not alone or the wrong person babe. I Love you "He told her "I Love You Too. and i wouldn't want to have been left with anyone but you. i would love if my family came back because its not the same but i'm glad you're here ." she said
she gave him a big hug and kissed him. she went in the shower then they went grocery shopping. shes in therapy right now and shes still going to the doctors. she has her brothers ashes sitting over the fire place because that was his favorite place and he would always listen to my stories there. he wouldn't let me tell him my stories unless we were sitting on the couch in front of the fireplace.

about a couple years later Stevie had a kid and it was a boy and she named him Danny Jr.
when Danny Jr. was 5 he asked " mommy why is there a Jr. after Danny?" " because Danny was your uncle but he died when i was 15 hun. and you're the second Danny in this family so there's a Jr. " she said with a smile. they were doing arts and crafts when a police man came to her door and told her that her husband died in the war. she fell to her knees in tears. then Danny Jr. came over and told her that its going to be okay. she looked at him and said "yes it will be. Hun yes it will." she lived he life on for a couple more years til her son was about 8 years old and they were taking a walk and Danny stumbled on the train tracks and his mom went and saved him and herself. but it was the second time she failed and Danny got hit by a train and so sis she because she ran to help him but she was to late and she just stood there and held him in her arms. now they're both in heaven with her mom dad brother and husband they have a beautiful home that they all live in and they're all happy that they're together again.
but Stevie still walks the streets of her house and her brothers house remembering the good time and bad times. you'll see her sometimes. but she'll be in her burnt dirty ripped wet prom dress on with her bunny and her locket on with the letters in her hand and the pictures her dad took. do be frightened shes only stopping by for a moment then going home. shes very friendly i must say because she was a strong girl and mother. she still is and forever will be. she tells me her stories and she wants me to tell you that she loves you all and wishes you the best in your life. because life's about being happy in what you do and what you make of it. So all in all make good choices and don't take life for granted because we're not promised tomorrow it's a gift.
