The Firefly
On the 29th of October It was a cold and rainy day in Blackburn. Colette was in her cozy and warm studio-apartment. She was immersed in her huge, wool-made hoodie, sitting next to a window. The fireplace was lit, and hot coffee was about to be brewed. She was looking at the nearby park out of her window, waiting for some inspiration to come by. Hours after hours the due date was coming up, fairly quickly. Stress was building up. She was still sitting at the same spot and not a single idea hit her. Her mood was degenerating, until a point where she thought to quit her job and waste her entire life.
By then, it was already 6 pm. The innocent darkness of the night was falling upon the little city of Blackburn. Another hour passed by until something caught her attention out of the window. It was a little firefly trying to follow his mom hoping to learn how to fly. That little firefly owed to himself to learn how to fly in order to keep living his life. Colette went back in the easy thought “I can’t do it “. But that specific scene remained in the back of her mind.
It was 7 in the morning. It had already been an hour since the sun rose from the horizon. Colette was going toward the kitchen to start the procedure for making breakfast. But in the path toward the kitchen -just like yesterday- something had caught her attention out the window. It was the firefly again that now was flying next to his mom. At first nothing happened, but then a feeling hit her. She owed it to herself to pursuing her passion and finish that painting.
As she sat in the studio part of her apartment, tons of ideas flooded into her mind. Colors were splashed on the canvas, lines were drawn, shapes took form, and the painting became alive. The due date finally came up and the painting was turned in. From that day, November 1st, Colette owed it to herself to never quit her passion but instead pursue it
