My Crazy Ex- Boyfriend
BOOM! Next thing I know the window to the back door shatters and Jason walks through the door.
“Did you just shoot my window!” I scream.
“No Kim your dog pulled the trigger and I just watched, Yes! I pulled the trigger.”
I immediately try to reach for the phone on the wall. However, before I could even touch it, Bob, one of the guys from Jason’s crew, came behind me and started to lead me to the black van parked outside. Next thing I know we arrive at this abandoned house, which they call a safe house, and they lock me in the attic. I try to think what can I possibly do to escape? I look and there is an old phone on the wall, but right when I see it, I hear footsteps. It’s Jason and he comes in with a sledgehammer and all I can do is scream. He took the sledgehammer and destroyed the phone on the wall and left. (166)
Suddenly I feel hopeless. Jason is never going to let me out of here. It is not my fault he was so clingy that I had to break up with him. Now he's jealous of my new boyfriend, Ryan, so he kidnapped me! What is up with that! Maybe he will find me. Well for now, I have to try and escape myself. I start looking around the room. There are many empty boxes, some blankets, an old sweater with a gross stain, and some really old books. Everything is so dusty and only three lightbulbs in the whole room. There is a small window. I try banging on it to somehow fling it open, but it just wouldn’t budge. I look outside nobody is there besides the van and this really old shed. At least I wasn’t out there. Salt Lake City, Utah might be sunny right now, but it still is pretty cold out there. At this point I wish I could repair phones but I’m just a high school biology teacher what could I possibly do. I go over to the phone and start twisting the wires together. I hear as if I’m dialing numbers and then it rings.
“Hello?”
“Yes! Hello! My name is Kim Martin I need you to please call my boyfriend I’ve been kidnapped. Please I need your help!”
“Yeah and they gave you a phone nice try.”
“The phone is shattered. I’ve been clicking wires together.”
“Bye now.”
“No wait please!”
Then the call ends. (409)
I try again. I won’t give up. I will make it out of here alive. I start to click the wires again. I hear ringing again.
“Hello?”
“Hi my name is Kim Martin. Please do not hang up I have been trying to call someone. I have been kidnapped. I don’t know where I am. The phone I am calling to you from is shattered. I’ve been clicking wires together. Please I need you to access another phone and call my boyfriend.”
“Ok ma’am I believe you, but wouldn’t you rather me call the authorities?”
“That would not do anything, the people who are holding me hostage are the police. My ex-boyfriend is crazy and he is a cop and he kidnapped me because he is jealous of my current boyfriend. He wants to kill me. Please go to another phone and call my boyfriend.”
“Ok ma’am let me just find a payphone.”
“Oh thank you so much! I really appreciate this! By the way, sir what is your name?”
“George.”
“Well George, thank you also for not hanging up on me.”
“Of course. This sounds serious. Ok, I’m pulling up to a payphone right now. So what is your boyfriend’s number?”
“555-712”
“Ok it’s ringing.”
“Hello?”
“Umm hi is this Ryan?”
“Yes how can I help you?”
“This might sound strange, but I have your girlfriend Kim Martin on the line on my phone and I’m calling you from a payphone right now. She is telling me she has been kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend and to contact you.”
“Where is she?!”
“I have no idea and neither does she. Would you like to meet up somewhere so you can talk to her on my phone?”
“Yes please! Meet me at the Corner Cafe. Do you know the directions?”
“Yes I do. I will meet you there.”
George started to drive to the Corner Cafe with Kim still on the line. He arrived and started to ask random gentlemen if their names were Ryan. (337)
Finally George found him and he gave Ryan the phone.
“Hey Kim is that you?”
“Yes Ryan it’s me! Jason took me to some kind of abandon house. I have no idea where I am. You have to help me!”
“Ok ok slow down. I’ll help you, but we first need to figure out where you are. Are there any windows you can look out of to try and describe the place to me?”
“Yes, but there is not much to tell you. All I see is the black van that they took me here in and a really old shed.”
“Can you read the license plate?”
“No. The windows are too rusty.”
Shortly after I walk around the attic, I sensed a certain feeling of nostalgia. I realized I’m in Bob’s house! The guy who put me in the van to get here in the first place!
“Ryan! I remember! I’m at Bob’s house!”
“Bob? Who’s Bob?”
“He is one of the guys in Jason’s crew!”
“I remember the street, but I don’t know the exact address.”
“That is all I need. What is the street?
“Vertin Boulevard.”
“Got it. George I’m going to need to take your phone.”
“Go ahead. Good luck.”
“Thanks, I’m going to need it.”
