My Soul Mate
I closed the door and plopped myself on the very soft bed in my hotel room. I lied on my back, rubbing my eyes as I wiggled out of my black stilettos tiredly. The long hours of flight left me really drowsy even when I slept for most of the time, and now I needed a very comfortable sleep.
I rubbed my eyes as I sluggishly fought to stand up and started pulling my clothes off to go have a cold shower. I picked my shoes up from where it was lying carelessly and ducked them on the shoe rack, knowing I’ll be here for a long time.
The cold water ran down my body in droplets leaving a tingling sensation as it went. I could hear ‘beautiful’ by Christina Aguilera play on my phone and sang along with it. I couldn’t help but think there was something off about that situation.
I was done in minutes and headed straight to bed. I was awoken by my phone two hours later. I ignored it and curled up in a ball pushing the covers over my body just before it rang again, stopping me. I picked it up and placed it on my ear, not bothering to check the Id.
“Tony, I’ve been calling you man. Where have you been?” I heard a male soft voice echo from the other end.
“I’m sorry. I’m Eleanor. Who are you?” I asked calmly trying to make sure my voice is not so hoarse.
“Wow. Tony never told me he had a girl” He replied and I could tell he was smirking at the moment.
“I think you called the wrong number.” I chirped and hung up slamming my phone on the bed almost immediately. I still had about an hour to sleep before going downstairs to have dinner and mingle with my business partners.
I closed my eyes for a second and was interrupted by yet, another call. I moaned louder now. I lazily reached for my phone which lied on the dresser and checked the caller Id. This time, it was just a random number.
“Hey” I grunted into my phone.
“Yeah, Eleanor right?” A male husky voice asked. Another wrong number interrupting my sleep, just great. I rolled my eyes at the sarcasm in my thoughts.
“Who are you?” I yelped into the phone glaring into thin air.
“The owner of the phone you using” He said casually and I shot up on my bed. I wanted to freak out but I didn’t want him thinking I was oblivious to everything because that would only make me feel really stupid. I withdrew my phone from my ear, and looked all around it, like there’ll be some place where his name is engraved to differentiate. But no, it was just like mine, very new except it was locked and I never locked my phone. But I knew one thing; he should be Tony, the Tony from earlier.
“Oh, Tony right” I said very casually. I heard him chuckle and couldn’t help but smile.
“You didn’t realise, did you?” He stated matter-of-factly. Maybe it was just really obvious and I couldn’t deny even if I wanted to.
“You know I could have gone months without realising” I told him and heard him laugh. His laugh seemed contagious because I started laughing with him almost immediately.
“Your friends kept calling though” he informed me.
“Your girlfriend never called. I’m still expecting it” I joked. I joined him again as he laughed. This was actually just a way to know if he had a girlfriend or not even though his friend made it clear he didn’t.
“You know your boyfriend either and I was wondering.” He let out a soft chuckle and I laughed because he was smarter.
“How did it happen anyway? I mean the switch.” I succeeded in changing the topic.
“We’ll talk about that later during dinner. I’ll be wearing a red blazer” he stated. “And you have an amazing voice. We could go on a date sometime.” He rushed in and hung up. What was that for? How could he say that and just end the call? My thoughts went wild as I remembered movies and books I’ve read about how people meet their soul mates on awkward occasions. Maybe Tony was my soul mate, he sounded so perfect. And he wanted to go on a date with me, see, he’s my soul mate. I started smiling bashfully. Was I really thinking that?
I yelped as I drew out my black strapless floor length gown that hugged my body up to my waist and flowed all the way down. I took my time to make up perfectly so at least anyone would be impressed to see me. I grabbed my silver heels that wouldn’t even be seen and put on as I scampered down the stairs and the big hall revealed itself. I didn’t have the time to take in all the beauty of this place, all I was looking for was a Red Blazer. I smiled as I saw it and immediately, I started walking over grabbing a glass of red wine on the way. He had his back towards me, so this was going to be a total surprise, wasn’t it? I tapped his shoulder smiling and took a sip from my glass as I waited for him to turn.
“Eleanor?” “Tony?” We echoed in unison. I could see surprise written all over my step-brother’s face and started laughing until he joined me.

Something happened to me recently that got me most disappointed which I really believed in anyway. But you know, sometimes people shouldn't take some things to heart. Just laugh it off....
