A New Life
A New Life
“Mom, Mom!” Claire exclaimed with tears rushing down her face. “Please don’t go... I love you mom.”
Claire was holding her hand as she felt the last heart beat. The buzzer rang, she was dead. Still holding her hand, she felt the coldness rush to her arm. She continued to cry. Claire kissed her mom for the last time, and let go and started to run down the road. Claire was only 15 and she just lost her mom and that was all she had. Her dad was in jail for child abuse because he used to beat her senselessly, and her grandma lives in Germany. She had green eyes and blonde hair she looked just like her mom.
Claire ran to her house grabbed her belongings and a snack and ran to her best friend’s house Nicole. Nicole let poor Claire in and made her a chocolate chip frappe and took her downstairs. Nicole hugged Claire and they talked about what she was going to do.
“I don’t know,” Claire responded.
“Well you have to do something. I mean, you’re only in high school. You can’t live on your own unless...”
“Unless what?!” Claire got all excited
“I mean… we could move in with each other.”
Claire thought about that and she loved the idea. They decided to move into Claire’s house. Nicole was a 15 year old girl who lived with her grandma. She had short blonde hair with black underneath. She wore a lot of makeup, her parents were always on business trips and she hasn’t seen them in for ten years she thinks they could be in Africa, or dead, but who knows. Nicole’s parents don’t know she dropped out of high school.
Nicole lived right across the street from Claire. They knew each other since the age of three. Nicole and Claire came out of the bedroom they just finished moving in. They walk out and look out the window and there was a man in a big black van stalking her grandma’s house. Nicole and Claire got anxious. Nicole and Claire checked to see if grandma was okay they called her and there was no answer. They gazed through grandma’s window and they could see two men with a gun pointed straight to her. Nicole and Claire screamed. Nicole and Claire called the police they came as quickly as they could but it was too late, grandma was dead and the three men escaped.
The police walked up to Nicole and Claire asked them a bunch of questions, mostly about what the three men looked like and the car type. He also asked if they lived alone. “It’s illegal to live by yourself under the age of 18,” The officer told them. Claire and Nicole wanted to tell a lie but they knew if they did, it would just get them in more trouble.
The police officers took the two girls to the police station and asked about their family and parent about where they lived who’s their parents were, aunt, uncle, grandma and grandpas, cousins, etc. They also did medical checkups, blood tests, background test and drug tests. Nicole and Claire were confused on why they were doing all this. They took them back to their house to get all their belongings, and they realized they were getting sent to a foster home.
“No!!” Claire screamed at the officer, “You can’t do this!!!!!” Nicole was almost ready to choke the man, but that stupid cage just had to be there. Claire still screamed they arrived there. The officer pulled them out of the car.
“Here it is. Sunny-Side Foster Home,” said the officer
“It looks like a piece of junk,” Nicole said angrily. The officer got their bags out of the car and lugged them inside.
“Hello,” said this little girl who was hooked to a travel IV and heart rate monitor. She had no hair or eyebrows. She glanced at Nicole and Claire and said in a soft voice, “My name is Emily. What is your name?”
Nicole and Claire stared at each other and responded “Nicole and Claire. The little girl stood there confused and said,
“Okay… well I’ll show you your rooms.” The little girl opened the door to the room and slowly walked over to this older girl on the bed reading. Claire and Nicole didn’t know if she was Emo because there were scratches, scares and cuts all up her arms. Little Emily quietly said, “This is Amanda.”
“Hey???” Claire and Nicole said awkwardly. Amanda put her head up and grinned like they were the worthless then she put her head back down. The owner of the foster home walked up to the room and welcomed them, she also told Nicole and Claire that adoption is in 3 days so don’t get comfy, everyone must go alone.”
“What did she just say?”
“She said we had to go separately.” Claire and Nicole stared at each other and were in shock. Nicole, Emily, Claire and Amanda all went to the main room where dinner was served and the hangout was. All 4 girls got a plate and ate up; they all had hamburgers, French fries, strawberries and milk. Emily left 5 minutes later to go get her shots and a new IV fluid bag changed.
“Hey Amanda I have some questions, can you answer them?” Claire said looking at poor little Emily getting brought back into the room.
“What?” Amanda said.
“How long will she live to be?”
“Who?”
“Emily.”
Amanda frowned. “Couple of days she’s getting bad.”
“Oh.” Claire frowned.
“And one more question. Do you want to escape?”
“More than anything, I hate this place, wait, why?! Amanda leered at Claire and Nicole
“We have a plain.” Nicole and Claire said with a mischievous look on their face.
Next day Emily woke up in pain and she was screaming and Nicole, Claire and Amanda knew this was her last day, and it was. Emily Rose Paige, 4/30/01- 4/22/13
“We will miss you Angel.” Amanda said starting to cry as she kissed little Emily and said goodbye.
The next day Claire woke Amanda and Nicole up to teach them the plan. “Okay so the plan, Claire pulled out a map. When they open the doors for our ‘parents’ we run out with all our stuff and go to my house and live in my basement but we will have to steal money food and clothes so we don’t starve at my house.”
“Steal?”
“Yes! We have too” exclaimed Nicole.
“Okay whatever” Amanda said.
Claire, Amanda and Nicole got all their important things and hid behind the corner. “Ready 1… 2… 3…”
The door opened they girls shoved the parents and they ran out laughing and running down the street the made it to Claire’s house. They opened the door, threw all their belongings in the basement and ran out of the house.
“Off to the store.” Claire said with a gigantic smile on her face.
They girls ran to the store and smuggled milk, eggs, butter, cookies, meat, and pop. Lucky they didn’t get caught. Amanda, Claire and Nicole all went back to the house running so no one would know what they did. She put the groceries in the cupboard and she went downstairs with her friends and this is the beginning of a new life.
