DIDNT SEE IT COMING
I was an ordinary boy named Brian. I was born in a hot country, Mexico, with my older brother and both parents. My older brother was named Mondo, but everyone knew him as baby G. He was only 1 year and a half older than me. I really looked up to him. Everything he did was cool to me since he was older.
When I was three, we moved to the U.S. When we came to the U.S., we lived in Menlo Park so we went to Belle Haven. Belle Haven is a K-8 school elementary school. It was known for being one of the poorest schools in the district. I liked it, even though it was kind of small and ghetto. I liked it because it I've been there since kinder so I got used to it.
Mondo started getting in trouble with the law when he was in 7th grade. When he went into his freshman year in high school, he was expelled in just a month for starting a rumble. I thought it was cool. I wanted to be just like him because he would always have money and I wanted money too. But Mondo didn’t want me to be like him. He always told me to be good and make my mom proud. He told me that because my mom was going through a lot with him already.
Baby G went to juvenile hall for the first time when he was 15 and kept going in and out. I was always curious what the hall was like. Baby G’s friends told me it was fun because of events they put on, but it wasn’t where you wanted to be either since you had no freedom.
One ordinary day while the sun was out, I was sitting down watching Ridiculousness, like I normally do. Someone got home and I knew it was Baby G because of the smell of marijuana. “Ayy, Brian,” Baby G said, “You wanna earn some money?” I was wondering why he was asking me that all of a sudden, maybe he did something else besides just weed. I was kinda thinking thats because he couldn't walk straight. I knew he was going to make me do something dumb because Baby G was stoned and maybe more.
I waited a little and started think, if I say yes maybe he and I would bond a lot more.
He asked again loudly, “Do you want to earn some money, yes or f***ing no!?”
I said quickly, “Yeah, sure.”
Later that day, he took me to an he took my to a scary, abandoned alley littered of used needles and cigarettes. It was where all the thugs would hang out and smoke. Everyday, there would be at least twenty thugs. I was scared. I thought they were going to do something to me. I thought they were going to point a gun to my head and sure, they did. The guy was about 6’5 with tattoos on his on his hands and neck. That put a lot more fear in my mind. I felt the cold hard metal on my temple. I had no idea why they were doing that. I just stood there with both my feet right next to my other as if my shoes were glued with the strongest glue in the world. The gun was still there on my temple. I wanted to run, but I thought that running was just going to make it worse. I was as scared as a dog’s first day at the pound. All I remember about that day was that they were cracking jokes. I remember one of them saying,“Ayy Baby G, it looks like you're going to have to go back home and bring him a change of clothes.”
I knew what he meant, because I was so scared it might just happen. I reacted after a while and swung my hand as fast as I could, and punched him right across the face. As I punched him, I felt his rough shaved beard picking my knuckles as if I just punched a cactus. Everyone looked at me as if i was crazy. I was really scared.
Mondo walked up to me and said,“It’s ok. it was all just a test.”
“So,” I said, “Did I pass?”
“By the look on their faces,” he said, ” I’m pretty sure you did.”
I was really happy , until the the guy I punched in the face stood up. It all went back to little p***y Brian. He just walked up to me and put his hand out as if he wanted me to put something in his hand.
“Are you just going to leave me hanging?” he asked.
“Ohh, I’m sorry,” I said. I then threw my hand out to shake his hand as fast as i could, as if i was going to punch him again, but I wasn’t.
“What you did there takes a lot of balls,” he said. I just stayed quiet.
“ We need someone like you in the gang,” he said, and then left.
Mondo then came and said,
“Get in the car. We’re going to get you some money.”
Manny, Baby G, one of Baby G’s friend, and I got into a car and drove off to a rich side of Menlo Park. We drove around as if we were lost. We looked for a house with no cars. Mondo parked in a nice two story house.
“Brian” baby G said, “Go nock to make sure there isn't anyone in there.”
“Why me?!” i asked
“Cuz I said so n***a!” Mondo screamed
I didn't reply. I just got out the car and knocked. Lucky no one opened up cuz I wouldn't know what to say. I run back to the car and told, “No one opened.”
“Ok good,” Mondos friend said.
“Get back in the car,” Mondo said I didn't reply, I just got in and he handed me a heavy pistol.
“Just in case,” Mondo said I was scared. I put the cold metal on my waist. Mondo started stopping on the door as if there was a face of somebody he hated on the door. I turned around to make sure no one was coming. I was looking at the street as If I was a starving lion looking for food.
Bang! I quickly turned. the door was on the floor. Inside it looked like a normal house with the couches, plasma tv, and a fancy glass table.
“Start looking,” Baby G said, “whatever you find is yours.”
I hired a door open but I ignored it. A even louder bang happened. I ran and it was Baby G laying there with blood all over his face. The cops got there in a blink of an eye. I went to jail for attempted of robbery and his friend was also killed by a police officer for threatening a cop with a gun, known as attempt of murder. I did a year since it was my first offense and the man in the house got away with it because we were in someone else property. I got out and stayed in school and became a cop. I now have a copy of my own and a wife. If it weren't for me watching my own brother and his friend got killed I probably would still been banging.
