On my first day of high school, I met my best friend, Jessica. She was an outgoing, talkative person and we had a lot of things in common. We

When I became a junior, I moved to a new dorm and met two other friends at my high school, Lucinda and May. We got along well with each other and became the “Group of Four.” Everyone knew that we were best friends. I remember one time when Lucinda was sick and we missed class just to take care of her. We tried to make Jessica laugh when she and her boyfriend had an argument. We would accompany May through the night to help her get through her exam anxiety. Compared to other dorm arrangements, I felt very fortunate to have such good roommates, and I thought we would get along forever.

Soon, however, there were conflicts between us. One day, Jessica asked me “Have you ever seen May take a shower?” I thought and said, “…No, I haven’t seen her do that.” “Me neither, and Lucinda told me she doesn’t see that either,” Jessica told me. After this gossip, I avoided touching anything that had touched by May. I was not bothered but I just feel a little uncomfortable. The three of us began to share secrets excluding May since this gossip. We stopped waiting for her to go to class in the morning. Thus, our relationship began to fall apart. There weren’t any big conflicts

between us at this point and we did not realize right away that we were having problems. During vacation, we texted each other a lot, and I share pictures with my friends during my trip. I found out that Lucinda and Jessica became very close because they were from same region, and so they could speak the same dialect, which excited them very much. I felt a little lost but did not show it.

After we came back to school, something changed. Jessica and Lucinda started deliberately avoiding each other. The atmosphere in the dorm was awkward because when one of them was talking, the other one would keep quiet. I asked them about this and tried to alleviate their relationship. But when I asked why, they just closed their mouths without a word. I thought that something must have happened to them during their vacation.

That secret troubled me until Jessica showed me the texts between her and Lucinda. She angrily gave her phone to me and said, “Do you know how bad Lucinda is?” I was surprised about the content because there were so many bad words in that text. When I asked Jessica what happened, Jessica told me that she invited Lucinda to her house during vacation, where they met Jessica 's new neighbor, a handsome, cheerful, and charming boy. The boy quickly fell in love with Lucinda, but he didn’t know Lucinda also had a boyfriend at our school. Lucinda still decided to date Jessica’s neighbor regardless.
“Why did she text you like that?” I kept asking.

“I told my neighbor that she already had a boyfriend at our school,” Jessica answered me.
“Why did you do that?” I looked at her.
She was silent for a while and said, “…I love him.”
I was shocked.
I realized that the four of us needed to sit down and chat. The opportunity soon arrived and I invited the three of them to dinner to celebrate my birthday. I told them that the four of us needed to clear things up with each other. I said that I cherished our friendship and that I hoped this friendship could continue. Slowly, we all began to share our feelings about the situation and towards each other. We had a long talk that night. Lucinda told us during the period when she quarreled with Jessica, nobody hung out with her and nobody even ate with her. She thought that others were talking about and laughing at her that she even attempts suicide.

I try to comfort she. After this conversation, our friendship reset and I think according this challenge, our friendship won’t be break anymore. Auld Lang Syne.
