THE BOY WHO COULD
It was a sunny saturday morning like any other day; but, for some reason today was the day that all of it was going to change. Delfino was 13 years old and goes to school at Dixon Elementary and plays for a soccer team called LA Storm and is captain of the team. Delfino was at his game doing what he does best, playing soccer; he scored 3 goals , a penalty and 2 free kicks; after his game he took off his shoes and put on his sandals. Once he finished he got up and walked to his car when a stranger walked up to him. “Nice game,” said the mysterious man.
“Thank you,” said Delfino.
“Sorry for walking up to you like a weird man; I am Rodriguez thee coach of LA Galaxy and I would like for you to play on my team.”
“YES! YES! YES!” shouted Delfino.
“Whoa. Calm down Delfino we have to talk about what just happened with your father.” said Delfino’s mom.
As Delfino’s mom spoke to Rodriguez about the cost it would be to join and the jersey’s; Delfino ran off to tell his team about what had just happened. He told them; they were very sad and happy for Delfino because Delfino was going to leave the team and go to a better one; but, they didn’t want him to leave. As he went back to his mom, she said, “I called your dad and he said yes!”
“OMG! Thank you! Thank you!” shouted Delfino.
As they were heading home Delfino’s mom took him to Subway, where he got a footlong sandwich, chips and a drink. All he was talking about was how excited he was to join the soccer team, but he was sad because he was leaving his friends; but, his mom told him that, “You're going to make new friends; you're still going to be able to see them just not as much as you used to.”
Delfino raised his head and said, “You're right mom I am going to make new friends.”
The next morning was a game for the LA Galaxy, which he was invited to by the coach to see how they played and meet the team so that when he goes to his first practice with them it won't be so awkward. The first thing he noticed when he got there was a huge guy. “He was like 5’8” said Delfino to his mom.
He was only 13 years old, who was really fast. The second half ended; so, the game was finished when he came up to Delfino and said “You the new kid?”
“Yeah why?” said Delfino.
“You’re short and scrawny!” After he said that he pushed Delfino to the ground and said “Get out of my face you little piece of s***.”
Delfino ran to the car and started crying, in a minute his mom chased after him and he said, “Never mind mom. I change my mind, I don't want to play for this team.”
“Oh, honey. It’s okay. He’s just mad because he knows that you're going to take his spot on the team, that’s why. Look, when someone pushes you, what do you do?”
“I stand back up and take it like a man,” said Delfino happyfully.
“That’s right. Now come on and show him you’re not afraid, and meet the rest of the team,” said Delfino’s mom.
They got out of the car and went back to the field where they were playing. Once they got there most of the players left; but, some of them were still there. The coach introduced him to the team, once they all left the coach asked him, “What do you think about the team?”
Delfino said, “The team was good on the field.”
He liked the way they played; they won 5-2 because they passed the ball a lot which he likes. He was ready to start playing with them.
The next day was Monday; he was ready for Tuesday because on Tuesday his new soccer team practiced. He woke up, went to school, told all his friends that he just joined this new team, and told them all what happened over the weekend; once school was over he went home and went to a soccer field with his old teammates to tell them what happened; so, he can play with them on more time before he leaves and starts playing with his new team. They stayed at the field for three hours. After they finished playing his mom picked him up and took him and his friends to Subway. They talked and talked and they didn’t stop talking for a very long time, which caused them to go home at 10pm.
The next morning he woke up and went to school and had a great day. He talked to his friends and had a good lunch because he ate pizza. While he had a great day, he was still counting down the minutes; and, in those minutes he counted every second school was over. Once school was over, he ran home because he couldn’t wait until he practiced and because he had a lot of excitement in his body. He got home and took off his backpack and shoes and ran to the kitchen table and started doing his homework; so, when his mom comes home and she tells him “Have you done you’re homework?” he could say, “Yes”. By the time he finished his homework he still had one hour to wait; so, he started playing on his Xbox one. It was finally time to go to practice, so Delfino put on his cleats and all of a sudden his mom came in with brand new CR7 high top superfly cleats he was so excited he has been wanting those before they even came out.
He arrived at his practice, he was so excited that he jumped out of the car. His mom had not parked yet; he got out and started stretching, then he started running; but, while he was running he started saying “hi” to everyone else. Everyone was talking about his new shoes, they were so jealous of him; but, when he saw the bully he was trying to avoid him because he knew that he would be trouble. Everyone was talking about his new shoes, they were saying how the sun gave them more shine. Everyone was super excited to have a new teammate on the team liked Delfino because of how good he was; and, he was funny. After he finished practicing Delfino was invited to a party, one of his teammates birthday and so he went. He arrived at the party, it was super awkward he didn't know anyone but there were people playing soccer. He started playing soccer and Delfino was having fun until the bully came and told Delfino “ hey you!”
“What?” said Delfino.
“Look here, i don’t like you or i don’t want you to join the team but, I guess I can’t stop you but there’s one thing I’m going to do is take my place! OK? and if you do i will beat you up so much that you will never play soccer again ok?” said the bully.
Once Kean left (the bully) Delfino sadly said “I……….. got to go.” Delfino once then ran to his house even though he knew his house was 2.4 miles away he still ran. Later that week the coach called to ask Delfino what happened and Delfino told him “I quit.” The coach told Delfino “NO! you don’t worry about him it’s about time that i kick him out. Delfino went to the game and he didn’t see kean there. Delfino was so happy that he wasn’t there. On that day the coach put him as captain and Delfino was happy and he became the best player on the team. Five years later and he went pro and went to barcelona to play with them and he was happy all his life.
