Tommy's Demise
“Open up! LAPD!”
Tommy opens the door with a confused look on his face
“Um can I hel”
Mid sentence Tommy was tackled to the ground.
“You’re under arrest for the theft of a white toyota. You have the right to remain silent anything you say will be used in a court of law”
“Woah I didn’t do! I’ve haven’t left my house all day today. Chill!”
The officers weren’t having it. They took Tommy out of his house and threw him in the back of the squad car. The car ride to the jail house Tommy kept questioning but they didn’t answer anything.
They arrived at the jailhouse in 20 minutes. They yanked Tommy out of the car and took him in to take his fingerprints and mugshots.
“Can I have my phone call?”
“Make it quick.”
Tommy put in his girlfriend's number. It rang and rang, she didn’t pick up. He called her again she finally picked up
“Hello? Who’s this?”
“Hello Maria it’s Tommy. Look I have no time to explain but i’m in jail right now and i’m being framed for grand theft auto. I need you to look around her for me and clear my name up”
“How in God’s name are you suppose I do that?! I don’t even know what’s going on
“Look I can’t explain due to the little time I have. When I have more time I’ll call you. Okay?”
“Okay. Be safe and I lov”
“Okay time’s up” The officer cut off the line.
After a long day of cleaning the cafeteria, one of the officer told Tommy he had a visitor. Tommy haven’t had a visitor in a while so he was excited to see who was there to surprise him. He dropped the mopped and raced to phone booth.
When he got to the booth he was greeted by a stranger he’d never met. Tommy sat down slowly as he picked up the phone.
“Hello who’s this?”
The unknown man picked up the phone
“You probably don’t know me but i’m the reason why you’re here but it’s all for good reason”
“Wait what do you mean? How am I here good?
“Look I’ll tell you at a better time”
The unknown man got up and left. This enraged Tommy. He stormed off back to the cafeteria. For the rest of the day that man was on Tommy’s mind. He couldn’t function right because he had abundance of questions going through his head.
Three days went by and Tommy hadn’t heard a word from unknown man till one of the officer said that there was mail for him. The officer gave Tommy an envelope. He opened it and the name at the top of the paper read “Leroy Jenkins” and the date read 6/12/15 . The letter read
“ Hello Tommy, The person writing this is the same person who came to visit you not to long ago. I’m writing this letter to tell you what I wanted to tell you earlier. A friend and I stole a car and we weren’t trying to get caught and get arrested so we switched license plate with the nearest car and that just so happened to be yours. Later that day I saw on the news that the car we switched the license plate with was getting towed and I saw that you got arrested too. I didn’t mean for you to get arrested. I’m going to stop by next week so we can talk about it. sincerely Leroy”
The letter enraged Tommy. The realization that he was going to get fired from his job and that he now had a record due to someone’s wrong doings added fuel to the fire. Tommy took the letter to his bunk, put it under his bed and went back to work.
After a long day’s work Tommy went back to his bunk to lay down and rest but he was greeted by his bunkmate. In a tired angry rage Tommy swiped the letter from his bunkmate and stashed it back underneath his bed. The bunkmate rolled his eyes and laughed, he walked off but before he was of sight and turned his head with back still facing Tommy and said
“Good luck trying to get out that.” He said
Tommy didn’t pay any mind to what he said and went to rest.
Six days past and tomorrow was visiting day. In preparation for it Tommy called his girlfriend to check up on her and to see if she had found any information on Leroy.
“Hello honey, how are you doing in there? You’re not hurt right?
“Yes i’m fine so far. I don’t want to draw attention to myself so i’m staying under the radar. Have you found anything on the person who framed me?
“No sorry. I’ve been searching everywhere but nothing’s coming up”
“Oh well I got something interesting to tell you. On the visiting day a person I’ve never seen a day in my life was waiting for me and we sat down and talked and he told me that he was stealing a car and to get away he switched my licence plate with the stolen cars and the cops thought I was the one who stole the car.”
“What? We should sue! You shouldn’t be in there! I’m coming there now”
“Wait no not yet. He said he felt bad about how I’m in here for his doings so he said he’s trying to help me get out. I don’t know how but I want to see first before.”
“What do you mean Tommy? This is your time to get out and you want to wait?!”
“Look I want to get out as fast as I can but I want to see what this guy can offer me first”
“Well okay Tommy I just want to make sure you’re okay”
“Don’t worry If he doesn’t help we’ll just sue alright?”
“Alright”
They both hang up.
Tommy walks back to his bunk. He lies down and stares at the ceiling. He starts thinking why this person would help him and where has he seen him before. Tommy thought about his school years but didn’t come to mind then. He than thought about his former workmates but that also didn’t come to mind. He than thought about his brother’s friend that use to come to his house all of the time. It than struck him why he’s been so calm and collected. He was a family friend, he use to help around the house and was just a good person. He always use to tell me how much he was fond of the name Leroy. Suddenly we just stopped seeing him. We soon found out that he had moved to Florida with his family.
Tommy’s mind was going crazy.
“No way. That definitely can’t be him. He was such a good person he wouldn’t do something like this. No way”
* Multiple weeks later *
Tommy had seen no sign of Leroy. Regret filled him as lies in his bunk.
“I knew I shouldn’t of trusted him. Why would I think that someone i’ve might of never met will help me get of jail. I’m so stupid now i’m never gonna get out of here. I knew I should’ve listened to Maria. I failed her”
The bell rang for lunch, Inmates left their bunks and made their way to the cafe. Tommy was starving. He raced to the cafe. When he entered he saw Leroy sitting at a table by himself with the same orange jumpsuit every inmate was wearing. Tommy confused to see him he walked over to him
“ Leroy why are you here? You never came to visit like you said you”
“ Well as you can see I’m in jail. I came in to visit you and as soon as I walked in they asked for my name and they arrested me for the crime you were framed for.”
“ How did they know it was actually you who committed it?”
“ I was a dumbass. I forgot they read your letters before they give them to you and I practically confused.”
“ So they must know i’m innocent then. They gotta let me out”
Tommy was so excited that didn’t eat. He sat there daydreaming on how he’s going to get his life back together. A guard interrupted Tommy, He said he had a visitor. That confused him because Visiting day isn’t till next week. The guard took him to the interrogation room and sitting there was a man in a suit.
“Hello Tommy. I’m Tom Bergeron. I’m going to be your lawyer. It’s come to realise that you’re in here for a crime you didn’t commit and the police have the actual culprit. So pack up your belongings, you’re getting out.”
Tommy was so happy he started crying. He ran to his bunk and quickly packed his materials. While Tommy was packing his a guard interrupted him and handed him a sweater, pants, and shoes.
“Here change into these”
It was weird to be wear something other than a jumpsuit but was glad he finally got out of it.
After he got his stuff was packed up his lawyer meet up with him and drove him home and waiting at the first door was his girlfriend. As soon as they made eye contact Tommy swung open the door and ran for Maria. They both hug and kiss each other
“It’s been too long” Said Maria
“I know. I never want to go through that hell ever again”
Tommy takes him materials from Tom’s car and took them into his house. When they entered the house Maria had a smug look on her and asked Tommy
“ So do I say I told you so now or later?”
