There once was a little boy named Josh.  Josh was a straight A student and very active. He played basketball, football, and sometimes soccer. He  always  knew  how  to cheer  people  up,  and  he  was  only  14. He lived in very small town so everyone knew everyone. If he was having a bad day, you would never know. Josh had only one sibling and his name was Joseph. Joseph was 10 years old. Josh also lost his mother when he was only 3 years old so he didn’t know much about her. People in the small town would tell him stories about her like how beautiful and kind she was. She was a very good lady, and josh would have loved her very much. He always tried to hang out with the bigger kids but they never let him. Until one day, they gave him offer. They said if you can take the ball and throw it at the little kid you can hang out with us. These kids was very bad news. No one liked them and they was so cruel. Josh stopped and thought about it, and then threw the ball. The little boy started crying. Josh felt bad but was happy he go to hang out with the big kids. At that moment, I knew Josh would change into a whole different person. Now every time Josh wanted to hang out with the bigger kids, they always made him do something mean or out of Josh’s character. For example, they once made Josh eat a huge bug. Josh got sick but was still happy he got to hang out with the big kids. Everyone that knew Josh could see that he was starting to go down the wrong path. Josh was like the favorite neighborhood child. A few days go by and the mean kids seen josh playing with his little brother. The big kids walked up to Josh and said “Hey shrimp, feel like hangin’ out today? We got something for you to do.” Josh looked at them, then looked at his litter brother. Then there he went off with the bad guys. Now we would think that Josh would never in a million years leave his brother to play by his self.  Him and his little brother where close, like too peas in a pod. The little brother Joseph was a little hurt but he continued to play by himself. So as Josh went off with the careless, inferior kids, they were doing things a little different that day.  They took Josh to this old shed down by the river. The shed belonged to an old poor man who always lived by himself. No one knows where the old man went. While they were in the shed, one of the kids pulled out a pack of cigarettes and gave everyone one. They all looked at Josh smiling and giggling. Josh has never smoked a cigarette before and didn’t know what to expect. “Do I really have to smoke this?” He said. You can tell by the look on his face that he was scared. “I’m not doing thing this, take this cigarette out of my hand”. Josh said with a fright. The kids all started laughing at him and making fun of him. “I knew you couldn’t hang with us, you’re too chicken!” One of the kids said. Josh didn’t want to be called a chicken, so he took the cigarette back. Everyone lit one and josh just sat there looking scared. They all looked at Josh waiting for him to light it. So he did. He took one puff, and started choking like crazy. He tried to put it out but the kids wouldn’t let him. He was red from all that choking. You would think those mean kids would have some sympathy for the little kid but didn’t. Anything could have happened! Everyone was done with their cigarette except Josh. He was thinking all the possible things that could happen while he was smoking. He knew that if his Father smelled cigarettes on him, he would be in so much trouble. He said to the kids, “I don’t want this anymore, it’s making me sick and I don’t want to get in trouble.” The kids all laughed at him and continued to call him a punk and a chicken. Josh hated being called a chicken so he continued to smoke the cancer stick. When Josh was done, he felt dizzy and wanted to go lay down. All the kids went on with their day and Josh was just scared to go home to face his father. Josh father was a strict man and always taught Josh and Joseph right from wrong. While he was walking home, he found out that his father wasn’t home. His little brother wanted to play but Josh wasn’t in the mood. So Josh went up to his room and took a nap. When their father finally arrived, Joseph told him that Josh left him to play by himself and left with the bad kids. Their father was very upset with Josh because everyone knows that’s not the kind of kid he was. So Josh’s father went upstairs to his room and woke Josh out of his sleep. Josh woke up with a frightening look on his face. He knew he was guilty for whatever his dad was about to accuse him with. “Where’d you go today? Why would you ever leave your little brother to go hang around them horrible kids, wha.. Do I smell cigarettes? WERE YOU SMOKING CIGARETTES!?” Josh was so scared he didn’t know what to say.  All of a sudden he started crying. Right there his father knew, he’s been acting up. His father didn’t yell at him like he planned to do. “I understand that you want to hang out with the big kids, this is not the way to do it. If you want to fit in, just be yourself. There should never be a reason for you to leave you brother by himself like that, or smoking cigarettes!” Their father said. As he continued to speak Josh took in every word he said to him that night. The next day Josh was outside playing with his little brother and saw the kids again. They asked Josh to come hang out with them and Josh declined them. Of course, the kids started calling him a chicken again. Josh realized that he didn’t need to hang around those horrible kids again. He looked to his little brother and said “I’m sorry Joseph, I will never leave you again to go hang out with those hoodlums.” Joseph smiled, gave him a hug and they continued to play.

What inspired me to write this peice was that there are kids out there really being pressured to do something they dont want to do and sometimes they do it just to fit in. I always say be your own person.
