Just My Luck
Why did the A/C have to fail during the hottest summer on record? I can see steam rising from the pine trees, which, somehow, managed to survive when the grass did not. The only relief from the heat is the open door of the freezer. This is where I am currently standing. Sweat is trickling its damp fingers through my scalp and down my back. Yesterday, I had the brilliant idea of taking a cold shower, but when I turned the knob, I received water about as cold as a Jacuzzi. This morning, I tried a different tactic. After filling the tub, I got as much ice as I could carry, with the hope of turning my bathwater cold, but my effort was to no avail. The ice melted before I could even make it to the bathroom.
So, here I am, sitting in front of the freezer’s open door, letting the chill wash over me as I drink a no-longer-iced latte, when the power goes out. Just my luck.
