Yellow
I hear the door close in my memory the sound so vivid. I can hear my feet slap on the cold tile floor as I ran to open the door. I swung the door open to lean out to see if I could catch him before he headed out. I watch as the yellow tail lights moved out of sight, rats I thought, I’ll just text him and see if he can add yellow food coloring to the grocery list. I had hope he wouldn’t put two and two together. That it was so I could dye the frosting for his cake yellow, his favorite color. Yellow the color of the flowers in my hand as I put them his grave, I didn’t know that memory would be the last I had of him. The last time I would see him alive, if only I could know if that text was the reason he’s not with me anymore, why he never made it back to get ready for his birthday party.
