a love scorned
i was not allowed to look at her.
father told me it was because she was no good, that she came from horrid magic. but deep down, i think he knew.
the day he came into my room to find us in bed, legs tangled and hands intertwined like branches, was the first time i’d ever felt true fear. as he pulled me up by the arm, i could do nothing but watch him spit curses at her retreating back.
“i love her!” i cried.
but a daughter who liked girls the same as boys was no daughter of his.
