What is love?
What is love?
My dog looked up to me with a new understanding of what I was saying. My dog has never experienced and might never experience love. So it asked me, “What is love?”.
I looked down at my dog and said, “Love isn’t just a four-letter word. Love is everything. It’s a feeling. It’s an emotion. It’s an entity. Loving someone makes us human. When we love someone, whether it’s our family, friends, or significant other, it makes us feel complete. Without love in our lives, we as humans would feel empty. When you love someone, you immediately know. It’s a feeling we get inside of ourselves. It warms our hearts and makes us feel happy inside. Love is like a roller coaster ride. It has its ups and downs, there are always risks, but it's thrilling and fun. It makes our lives more fulfilling. Love is a part of us.
“This intense feeling isn’t only about people; it can be an activity or sport that draws you in. Loving someone or something is about what we feel. It’s hard to describe because that love is different for everyone. Everyone experiences it in different ways and with different people or things. Loving someone might make us crazy sometimes, but hold onto it. Cherish that person or thing because it only comes around once in a while.
“Love is everything about ourselves. It fills our minds, changes our perspectives, and makes us feel different inside. So you ask, “What is love?”. Well, love is the complex emotion that captivates everyone and everything in this universe.”
The dog looked at me with its head tilted. I realized then that it understood this new perspective of love. My dog was aware of how much love matters to this world and how it binds everything together. My dog appreciates all the power love holds. My dog understands the true meaning of love.

I wrote this piece as a creative writing assignment for my English class. My objective was to explain love to a magical pet.
