Dumped for Delia
I have to admit, on February 14th, most girls expect chocolate and flowers and that's what I was expecting, too. Jason and I were going to meet for breakfast and I hadn't been able to sleep the night before. This was going to be our 1st Valentines Day together. I couldn't wait. He was coming at 9:45 and then it was off to Eddy's Diner. But it was now 9:59. Jason was never late. What could be keeping him? Just then, he knocked on the door. I opened it and he walked in. I waited a second for the hello kiss he usually gave me but it didn't come.
“Jason, is something wrong?” I asked.
“Look...Hazel...” Hazel...that wasn't good...Jason always called me Zellie (my nick-name)... not Hazel...
“This isn't going to be easy to say,” he continued, “...Delia, can you come in a sec?”
“Jason!” a pretty girl said as she walked in. “I said I didn't want to get involved!”
Involved in what? And then I understood, Jason was breaking up with me! I tried to keep smiling but Jason could tell what I was thinking.
“I'm sorry,” he said.
“That's O.K.” I replied. “Happy Valentines Day.”
Well, that was the biggest lie ever! I trusted him! I told him I loved him and I meant it! But he shoved that aside and said he liked this “Delia” better! Her and her flawless blond hair and double zero jeans. How could I top that?
Once they left I cried and wouldn't talk to anyone. Some way to spend Valentines Day. A single, very alone, and very hurt, average girl.
