TILL IT MADE SENSE
Every woman looks beautiful with her hair spread against her back. She did even more.
It amazed people when her long reddish hair fell upon her back and snaked down against her spine. Her hair smelled of a concoction of strawberries and roses and was always disheveled in an attractive kind of way. It seemed clear that she never combed her hair or tied it up. But that did not matter much because her open disheveled hair suited her really well.
Her eyes were a mystery to the people around her. They spoke of emotions in very cryptic codes, codes that nobody could really decipher. They never needed a tint of kohl, because they were born kohl adorned. They often wore deadpan expressions, which scared people. But most of the time they were watery and lively, which made people happy. They were full of unearthly fantasies and imaginations, which only belonged to the infinite world of hers. When her gaze fell upon somebody, they froze. That’s because it was angelic.
Her lips were soft and plump. They were always bent in an adequate angle, allowing her to smile the nicest smiles ever. When she smiled, everyone smiled. That’s because it was special.
Her smell was hallucinating. It was the feature that best described her unearthliness. It was not of a human being, it could not be. It was a real smell of a real flower. At least, that’s what people suspected.
Nobody ever really heard her voice except when she sang. She sang invisibly and invincibly. Her voice made the birds stop chirping. It also made the hearts beat faster. It was magical. At least, that’s what the people thought.
But what the people did not know about her was that, she was a lonely and an extremely unhappy person. They could never see through her. But how could a girl with the finest hair, the best eyes, the nicest smile and the sweetest voice have also the unhappiest of souls? That’s because she thought it was only her hair, her eyes, her smiles, her voice and in a whole, it was her physique that the people loved. Nobody really loved her. At least, that’s what she thought.
So, one autumn night, she left her place and ran to the horizons, in search for real love. She crunched through the patchy bushes; she waded through the canal waters. She got bitten by evil bugs.
She spent dreadful nights in the woods. Alone and in the dark. But she did not let fear to clutch her fragile heart. She waited for the mornings. And as soon as the sun projected its shadow on the mighty trees, she set off for her perpetual journey again.
She ran a lot. And she kept running. It did not seem tiring.
It rather seemed beautiful.
Because hovering around the streets, the fields, the beaches and the hills like a phantom made her notice love. She noticed it in the moving corns in the corn fields, in the infinity of the monochromatic blue sky. She heard it in the deafening whispers of birds that flew around her. She felt it in the baffling waves of seawater that touched her anklet-adorned feet. She saw it in the stark silhouette of hills against the spreading light of the dusk and the dawn. In the hills, in the seas, in the skies and in everything that seemed infinite, she sensed it. She found it in the stars that peeped through the display of nothingness and she smiled her beautiful smile. She knew by then how beautiful love was.
She knew that she was beautiful, and everything surrounding her was beautiful. She knew that something real was missing in the love that she had found. But that did not bother her anymore because she was satisfied with what she had found. She was triumphant.
What she did not know was that she was being followed. That she had a companion in her perpetual journey. That she had not found the ultimate love she had been searching for, yet. That there was someone who loved her for who she was, and he did so with all his heart.
And he was a boy in ragged clothes. He wore a beautiful smile too, and everything about him was as disheveled as her hair, except his face. His face spoke of love.
She discovered him sitting beside her one morning, in an open and seemingly infinite field. Her freezing gaze fell upon him and she was startled at the thing she had just unveiled.
She went back from where she had started. She knew the true nature of love all of a sudden; that love never requires to be followed. Love himself follows you.
So, she smiled her beautiful smile again.
The boy was flummoxed at her smile. He saw love in it.
He tentatively came forward and held her hands. They kept holding hands until anything could make sense again.
