Two Charming Uncles Eating To The Beat
Chloe was thinking about Brendan Finnick again. Brendan was an admirable academic with brunette hair and brown eyes. She walked over to the window and reflected on her unattractive surroundings. She had always hated deserted Couple Cove with its large, polluted lake. It was a place that encouraged her tendency to feel lonely. It’s not that she couldn’t get someone to date her, it’s that her parents were religiously against it. Just then, she saw something in the distance, or rather someone.
It was the admirable figure of Brendan Finnick.
Brendan Finnick has been ruining her life since third grade. His charming features drove her crazy. Her parents’ deep disapproval didn’t help her emotions to stabilize. There was never a time when she was not in deep thought about his, well, everything.
Chloe gulped. She glanced at her own reflection. She was an intuitive whiskey drinker with a ruddy face and skinny arms. Her friends saw her as a gorgeous goddess. Once, she had even jumped into a river and saved a drowning toddler. But not even an intuitive person who had once jumped into a river and saved a drowning child, was prepared for what Brendan had in store today. She decided to walk outside and talk to him. It was high time, anyway. If they couldn’t date, they could at least be friends.
The snow flurried in the air, making Chloe unstable. She grabbed a tattered coat that had been strewn nearby the edge of her house and threw it over her shoulders. As she stepped outside and Brendan came closer, she could see the poised smile on his face. Her breathing hitched. Could he possibly have feelings for her too? Brendan gazed with the affection of 8,861 adoring Justin Bieber fans. He said, in hushed tones, "I love you."
Chloe looked back, even more unstable. "Brendan, get out of my head. You know this could never work out." she replied. She knew he had no idea what she was talking about. She just thought it sounded all cool and surreal. They looked at each other with ambivalent feelings.
Chloe studied Brendan's brunette hair and brown eyes. Eventually, she took a deep breath. "I'm sorry," began Chloe in apologetic tones, "But I don't feel the same way, and I never will. I just don't love you Brendan."
She lied.
Brendan looked hurt, his emotions raw. Chloe could actually hear Brendan's emotions shatter into 2,929 pieces. Then the admirable academic hurried away into the distance.
Not even a glass of whiskey would calm Chloe's nerves tonight.
