Good Morning
I lie still. I can feel the coolness of the sheets on my skin, as well as the warm breeze blowing through an open window. Sunlight seeps through my eyelids, giving the illusion of a sunset inside of my eyes. I watch the reds, oranges and yellows mix with the eddying currents of my own blood, making me feel as if I am ever more alive, as if I can feel each and every tiny organism on my skin.
I can feel you lying on top of me. Comforting weight, a rock to bind me to sanity and keep me whole. Your breath tickles the skin on my chest, and your hair flutters with every breath of mine. You stir, and open those beautiful eyes, like twin islands of obsidian, each on their own lonely sea. I can feel myself smile. At this point, it’s automatic. I have no control.
You stifle a yawn, your hair a messy halo around your head. This is when you are at your most beautiful. Your most pure. Your most serene. The simplest moments when we aren’t caught up in the rush of the rest of the world. When I can just hold you. This is when I know who I am. You roll off of me, onto your back and stretch. Your back arches, on your face there is a look of serenity. You blink once. Twice. Three times.
I speak: “Good morning sweetheart, how did you sleep?”
You smile at me.
And I melt.
