The Agenda
SCENE 1
Two lovers holding each other at gunpoint, they’re crying as the shots go off and they fall to the ground. Maniacal laughter can be heard in the background.
Lovers (Screaming)
(Lights go out and the actors quietly exit
stage)
SCENE 2
Gay Mansion, with the 4 remaining family members being led inside after the parents commit double suicide. The lighting is dark, somber with eerie violins playing quietly. Daughters Emma, Genna, and Julia are crying while son Kyle talks to the detective. The bodies are still covered, surrounded by the Detective, Kyle, and some other officers. The 3 sisters are in the background, closer to the house, crying and hugging.
Detective I’m sorry about your parents, son.
Kyle Are you sure it’s suicide? Th-They wouldn’t…
(Tears stream down his face and the detective gives him a supporting pat on the shoulder).
Detective Sorry, we don’t know yet. We’ll have someone
inside asking you and your sisters some questions soon, okay?
(Kyle nods and starts to head over to his crying
sisters when the detective grabs his arm).
Detective Take care of yourself, kid.
Kyle (Nods sadly and walks away, replaced by the crime
scene investigator).
Investigator We found something, sir.
(Detective follows investigator’s lead).
SCENE 3
Inside the house the 3 kids are fighting. Kyle gets up to leave
Genna You can’t just leave, Kyle. You’re always running
from us.
Julia We need you.
(Kyle turns to the door, ignoring them).
Emma Fine, leave, don’t come back. We don’t need you.
Mom and dad never cared about you, why should we?
Kyle (Runs towards stage left and doesn’t look back)
SCENE 4
Detective stands over two covered up bodies while everyone else is inside, thinking he’s alone he takes off his gloves and lets his hand run over the corpses.
Detective You were so good for me, you didn’t even
struggle. But look at all this blood, I thought I asked for a clean shoot. Tut, tut.
(He is smiling, pleased. He covers them back up and leaves bodies).
Kyle (Rushes out of hiding spot to the bodies, falls
to his knees and watches where the detective just left).
Oh, God.
(Lights dim as he stares at his parents bodies).
Scene 5
Set a few days after scene 3, Kyle walks into the detective’s office and locks the door. His turns so his back is against the door and tries to look “cool.”
Detective Is there anything I can help you with?
Kyle Maybe…
Detective (Sighs)
Well? What is it?
Kyle There’s this one thing I’ve been wondering… Why
did you do it?
Detective Do what?
Kyle (Grins wickedly).
Oh, you don’t fool me.
Detective And why’s that?
Kyle I saw you
Detective Well, I would hope so, since I’m helping with
the case
Kyle No, I saw you.
Detective Oh, you did, did you? And what did you see me
do, exactly?
Kyle Have some fun.
(Stalks towards the Detective and pushes him onto
a chair).
I promise not to tell, you just have to do me one tiny favor.
Detective (Sighs and gives Kyle a tired look).
And what would that be?
Kyle (Leans in and whispers into his ear).
SCENE 6
Maniacal laughter can be heard again, but two separate laughs this time. The light lands on the 3 sisters crying as they hold guns out at eachother.
Girls Please, no, we’re sorry
(Gunshots and then silence)
