Poppies
~If you lean down just right, you can still hear them~
“What a lovely garden, Miss Thompson.” The woman was tall, and wore a baby blue jacket over her skin tight white dress. She masked her imperfections with makeup that was poorly blotched on, and a ribboned blue sunhat to hide her grey roots.
“Thank you Mam, it's a pleasure to have you visiting.” A lie. I faked a smile, a very deceiving smile indeed. She smiled back and continued to admire my everlasting garden. Rows upon rows of beautiful red flowers, tulips, roses, snapdragons, bleeding hearts, poinsettias, poppies, and many many more. A tall fountain stood in the middle of the crimson forest. Carved into it were old greek carvings of the monster medusa. Water tumbled over the top tier of the fountain and fell down beautifully to the next. The sight and the sound of the water relaxed anyone foolish enough to enter my beautiful garden. The scenery is guaranteed to make anyone feel safe, relaxed.
The woman wandered around the fields appreciating my selection of flowers, it was simply a waiting game for me. However the mere look of the woman was upsetting me, I wanted her so desperately to leave. I kept my composure remiding myself how lovely a flower the lady would surely make. Many minutes passed My patience was running out quickly.
“Is there anything you need my assistance with?” I asked her with the utmost hospitality in my voice, flashing a gentle smile which was once again faux.
“Im quite alright Miss Thompson, thank you” She smiled back at me, her smile irritated me. I was getting extremely bored and tetchy. I had to speed things up a bit.
“Wonderful then, would you like a cup of tea?” I asked the lady, oh what soothing tea I would prepare her. She nodded a yes and thanked me once more. Soon enough I found myself in my kitchen hunched over the smooth marble countertops. I reached into my cupboards and grabbed my fanciest china teacup. I filled my teapot up with water and brought it to a boil over my stove top. I walked away from the teapot and found myself in the pantry where I picked out my most lovely chamomile tea. One to surely make the woman feel at home. I smiled at my magnificent choice and walked all my ingredients over to the counter. I carefully poured the hot liquid into the cup as steam rolled off the top. I dipped the tea bag into the water and set it down letting it seep. The herby scents filled my lungs as I took in deep relaxed breaths. The final ingredient, the special touch. I hummed a gentle song as I added it into the mix. Stirring it in and blowing off the steam before bringing it out for my guest.
There the woman stood gazing at my wonderful poppy flowers. “Are those your favorite?” I asked a kind smirk growing on my pale skin. I reached out my hands offering the cup of tea. She turned her attention to me and grabbed the drink out of my hands.
“Thank you Miss, and yes, I have always been very fond of poppies. Such a gorgeous red too.” She commented, before bringing the drink to her lips and taking a small sip. Everything was going perfectly, only a bit longer before Ive won.
“I hope you enjoy the tea, chamomile is my favorite.” I said.
“It is very good” The woman nodded, her voice sounding weakened. She placed her hand on her temples, rubbing them.
“Is something the matter? You seem uneasy” I ask her. Oh, it was so cruel. So cruel how amazing I was at putting on a show. I seemed so clueless I was sure of it.
“Just a small headache, do you have a place to sit?” She groaned, I nodded and led her towards a small bench near the fountain. She tried to walk but was stumbling terribly. Dizzily trying to make her way towards the seat. It was only a few steps more before she collapsed on the floor. A gasp left my mouth, I had to keep the act until I was sure she was unconscious. I leaned down near her body which was laying on the cold stone path which led through my blossoms. I flipped her over so she was on her back and brought my hand to her head. I poked and prodded at her to see if she would wake but no. She was out cold. I had to act quick as she may awaken any moment. I checked my surroundings to make sure I was completely alone.
I reached into my jean pants and pulled out my small blade. I traced the knife down to her chest where I found her heart beat. I removed her blue jacket and depeened my blade into her skin. “I'll make it quick.” I said as I continued to cut around the ladys heart. Blood seeped through her dress and onto the stone walkway. After a while of carving through the woman's body I found the heart and oh so carefully removed it from her body. “What a lovely color red, itll make a gorgeous poppy.'' I punctured a small hole in her heart and grabbed a bag of small poppy seeds out of my pocket. I tore open the seal and planted one of the seeds in the gash. I felt the heartbeat in my hands as I cuffed it in my palms. I found a wonderful spot near the rest of my poppies. “A perfect spot for you.” I smiled and began to dig a hole just big enough to fit the woman's heart. I placed her core in the soft soil and covered the hole with a pleased look on my face. “Now to clean up.” I smirked and rised off the ground. The job was done and done wonderfully once again.
