The House Sitter
The House Sitter
“Julie! Mr. Foster was wondering if you wanted to watch his house for a couple days?” yelled Katherine, Julie’s mom on the phone.
“ In return, will get paid?” Julie questioned.”
“Oh my gosh Julie. Yes Dave, she would love to.”
“Great! Have her come over all of this week, I will be back Saturday.”
As Katherine finished talking to Dave Foster, she explained the plan. She also explained that she would just feed the cat and water a couple of his plants. Julie thought that this job would be easy and would give her time to go to a party.
As the week kept going by Julie was ecstatic that it was Friday and that she only had to work today and she could go to the party. She ran fast to the car and watched a video, telling her mom to hurry up because she wanted to warm up her food in the microwave.
As her mom drove her, she said “I’ll text you when you can pick me up.”
“Okay, I might be a little late.”
“Fine, but try not to be late!” exclaimed Julie.
Julie took out her telephone and typed in the garage code and poured the cat food and water. After that she walked over to the kitchen and filled a cup of water for the dehydrated plant. She climbed upstairs to water them, but as she was rushing she poured water all over the desk!
She sprinted down stairs, grabbed paper towels, and rushed back up the stairs. She ripped open the drawers and threw everything on the ground.
“How could this seriously happen!” she thought to herself.
As she wiped up the watery mess she began putting everything back in the drawers. Just as she was putting the last thing away she picked up a photograph. The crazy thing was, the photograph was of her. She tried to think of possibilities of why there was a picture of her, She inspected the photo again words on the back that said “ The Next.” She looked around and found other pictures of the photogenic kids around her age that had gone missing a couple years ago. Terrified she pulled out her phone and called her mom.
“Come on, pick up, pick up!” she whispered to herself.
Just as the phone call was pending, her mom picked up.
“Yes honey. Done this early?”
“Mom! I need you to come over right now.”
“Why, I’m still at work.”
“ Mr. Foster has a school yearbook picture of me with the words on the back saying “The Next” and pictures of the other kids that went missing last…”
Just as she was about to finish her sentence, she heard the sound of the garage door opening and told her mom she had to go and hung up, she needed to find an exit, fast.
